5.6, that’s a fairly hefty quake.
Let me guess, caused by fracking?
this guy always has great analysis of earthquakes, and his earthquake predictions are uncanny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJyjHXyuh8Y

I suppose the earthquakes will take care of what the tornadoes failed to get the first time.
“Let me guess, caused by fracking? ”
I don’t know. It’s awful coincidental the fat chick across the street fell at that exact moment.
The entire theory of plate tectonics was not even formally proposed until the mid 1970’s, so our understanding of what is actually going on is quite limited in many ways.
That said, that area of the country is geologically active. That’s the reason there is oil to be found there in the first place. In addition, the North American continent is slowly spreading apart as it also slowly continues to drift across the mantle of the planet.
This was a strong temblor, but it was also likely at the very top of the scale in terms of what the maximum magnitude quake the area is capable of producing. Fracking may or may not have anything to do with it.
This certainly was not “the big one”. When that goes down it won’t be in Oklahoma. It will be along the entire Western Seaboard of North America when Cascadia finally lets loose again. That one will likely push into the high 9 point something, and the resulting tsunami will scour everything off the coastline all the way to the first intervening set of mountains.
You don’t usually hear about quakes that size in that area.
At 7:00 a.m. I heard people shooting off guns from three different directions. Forgot it was a holiday weekend. Bit early for shooting, though.
