Wisconsin’s winners and losers

Tony Evers Wins Democratic Gubernatorial Primary In Wisconsin, Faces Walker In November.

DC: Wisconsin’s state education superintendent Tony Evers won the Democratic gubernatorial primary Tuesday evening and will have the chance to take down longtime incumbent GOP Gov. Scott Walker in November.

Evers, 66, beat out seven other candidates with 38.9 percent of the vote in a crowded pool that once included over a dozen Democrats, from businessmen to firefighter chiefs.

Walker won the GOP gubernatorial primary on Tuesday with 94.1 percent of the vote against Robert Meyer, the 61-year-old publisher.  more

Steil, Bryce Win Wisconsin Congressional Primaries.

DC:

Bryan Steil and Randy Bryce won their Republican and Democratic primary races Tuesday night, respectively, in Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District, setting the stage to see who will ultimately take House Speaker Paul Ryan’s longtime seat.

Despite running in a crowded field, Steil was long favored to emerge victorious in the GOP primary contest. The former Ryan aide and manufacturing sector attorney defeated four other candidates.

Bryce was still able to win his primary election over one other candidate, despite big stumbles during his campaign.

Steil beat back challenges from Army veteran Nick Polce, applications engineer Kevin Steen, Paul Nehlen and activist Jeremy Ryan.

A member of a prominent Republican family, Steil has been well known and well liked in Wisconsin’s southeastern district. Before working as a manufacturing lawyer, Steil served as a legislative aide and adviser to Ryan in the early 2000s. He threw his hat into the ring in April, just days after the Republican House speaker announced that he would be retiring. Ryan officially endorsed Steil in June.

Over on the Democratic side, ironworker and perennial candidate for office Bryce defeated Janesville School Board member Cathy Myers.

Bryce’s launch video skyrocketed him to stardom among national Democrats, many of whom believed he had the chops to take Ryan’s seat. The Wisconsin Democrat — who calls himself “Ironstache” and considers himself a working man — immediately raked in out-of-state donations and was the undisputed favorite to win the Democratic primary.

However, numerous revelations into his personal life had since thrown his campaign into disarray.

Local media revealed in November 2017 that Bryce had been delinquent on his child support payments for nearly two years, with him finally paying off his debt two months after launching his campaign. Later that same month, an ex-girfriend revealed that he avoided paying money owed to her for 15 years — even ignoring a court order.

Bryce had blamed both accounts on being a struggling blue-collar worker. Court documents show he was earning as much as $76,000 just a few years ago.  MORE

  1. Never-Trumper Vukmir beat veteran Nicholson to take on Tammy Balwin in the Senate.

Democrat incumbent Balwin’s awash with outside money, has already spent millions even though there was no one challenging her in the primary.

She’s been whining about taking special interest money for months and yet here she is, over 60% of her campaign money came from out of state. Typical democrat tactic.

  2. Life long [conservative] 1st Congressional District constituent… Wisconsin is ready to cash it in. Weak eGOP representation this fall. Fickle moderate support will cave for the liberals. Bad things. B-A-A-A-D things.

  3. Walker still received twice as many total votes as Evers. I have had casual chats with Evers over a beer and IMHO he is a typical leftist when it comes to public education reform. Take that any way you wish. It’s not an endorsement by any means.

  4. Dr. Tar, Leah Vukmir was not and is not a “Never Trumper”. She opposed Trump during the primary as did most GOP voters in WI, including our beloved Scott Walker. If you classify anyone who once opposed Trump in favor of another candidate as a “Never Trumper”, that’s most of us.

One of the despicable things done by the despicable Paul Ryan was delaying his announcement of not seeking re-election so no one but his hand-picked successor could realistically put together a campaign. Kevin Nicholson was a very good candidate, wasted in a run against a well-liked conservative with a solid track record of supporting Walker’s conservative agenda. I have no doubt she’ll do the same for Trump. I would much rather Nicholson had run for Ryan’s seat so we could have had both.
