The Federalist: A witness in the ongoing trial of infamous Mexican drug cartel kingpin Joaquín Guzmán Loera, a.k.a. “El Chapo,” testified Tuesday that former Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto took a $100 million bribe from Guzmán.
The witness, Alex Cifuentes Villa, is a former Colombian drug lord who worked closely with Guzmán from 2007 to 2013. His bombshell testimony comes amid a trial that has revealed corruption at almost every level of the Mexican government.
According to The New York Times, one of Guzmán’s lawyers, Jeffrey Lichtman, asked Cifuentes during cross-examination, “Mr. Guzmán paid a bribe of $100 million to President Peña Nieto?” “Yes,” responded Cifuentes.
Later, Cifuentes said Peña Nieto is the one who first reached out to Guzmán, asking for $250 million in exchange for allowing him to come out of hiding. Guzmán offered $100 million instead. more here
The “mordida” has beem around for a long time, it is the size of this one that is amazing.
Can you say Shit Hole? This guy must have been a democrat.
Yeah, that’s an impressive amount of money but we americans have them beat, we’ve got Dianne Feinstein and the take from China would balance the budget.
How much did Mrs. Clinton get for opening her e-mail server to foreign intelligence services?
I believe it eventually topped $400 Million.
There’s corrupt – and then there’s CORRUPT!
And if we take into consideration how much was stolen under TARP, Green Energy, and the various other scams perpetrated by Congress, we’re into the hundreds of $Billions – maybe $Trillions.
mexicans seem worse (more corrupt) cuz we picture them as Eli Wallach as “Tuco” – but they’re pretty Bush-League (heh heh) compared to some of ours.

What an amateur!
A corrupt latin politician?
Amazing.
Gotta wonder what $100 mil. buys beside the president – and how much of it ended up in the pockets of US officials and pols.
English is not his first language. As President Clinton, President* Clinton, and on down the line have sworn, under oath, “It’s not a ‘bribe’ unless the check memo is marked ‘Bribe’.” And, according to every reasonable prosecutor and judge, spelling and capitalization are all that matters.
Look at our congress. Run for US office, become a multi-millionaire.
The only thing that is coming as a surprise to anyone from North America is the size of the bribe as you have to admit (Hillary and the Clinton Foundation aside) is the size of the single bribe. You have to admit $100 million US is a lot of pesos in a single shopping bag. Almost the entire Mexican Government structure from the local dog catcher to El Presidente takes bribes in any form and is likely the only way (at least for those lower on the totem pole) for them to make ends meet because there’s no money left in the government coffers after all the theft of tax dollars by other government employees. The facade that tourists see and that cheap cerveza you get on the beach hides an awful lot of misery in that country. While I want to see the illegal border crossings stop I can understand the desire of them to escape that Planet of the Apes country.
And I’m sure that’s the only bribe the guy took.

Probably $100 Million Pesos.
I think mexicans use that “$” symbol, too.
So, that’d be about $10 Million US? Standard payoff for a big-city Mayor or Governor, here in the US. de Blasio racks that up pretty often, doesn’t he? And Andy Cuomo? Gavin Newsome? $10 Million barely get ya through the door in Illinois!
