This Buzzbee guy — the lawyer — is worse than Gloria Allread. He’s been consistently doling out (chumming the waters) the individual lawsuits in order for the defendants to settle their cases or extort settlement to keep their names out of the media. You’ll know who feels brave or lucky enough to undergo a jury’s scrutiny when their name(s) are made public. And I don’t understand that. It would seem that crimes of this nature are felonies and cannot be adjudicated as merely civil cases. Can someone explain this to me?

@AA: These types of things can give rise to both civil liability and criminal liability. When it comes to celebrities and high government officials, I’m o.k. with this system; celebrities and high government officials frequently have the clout to keep things out of the criminal court system. However, the private attorneys (I know, many of them are bottom feeders) are out for money, and at least the exposure is worth something. Arguably Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein may have skated but for the civil aspect which ultimately led to criminal charges.
