LAKE WORTH, Fla. (WPEC) — Experts say thousands of single people become victims of romance scams every week. There are millions around the world who have been affected by this trend.

Deborah Montgomery Johnson was a widow, looking for new love after the death of her husband. She logged onto a dating site, then fell head over heels for an international man of mystery and was tricked into sending him over $1 million.

She thought her new boyfriend was British, a world traveler, a Christian. Turned out, “he” was never real, and instead, a team of computer savvy Nigerians was pulling the strings the whole time. more

  1. I’ve seen this type of woman before. I’d wager that literally EVERYONE she knew warned her that she was getting ripped off, but her pathetic ego insisted that the perfect man was out there and loved her, if she just sent him a little more money to help him get to the US.

This is a mania for some women. They can literally seem sane in all other areas, and still screw up their lives in this exact same manner. Hell, half the time they even know they’re getting swindled, but will keep on cooperating anyway. It’s tragic and sickening to witness, which is why I have zero interest in hearing about women in this situation. They’re hopelessly fucked up, and that will never change.

Her dead husband probably sweated his whole life to provide for her in her old age, and she’s fucking it all up. He should just bought a hot car and got a goomah.

  2. When did people stop learning if it sounds to good to be true, it likely is! It is always older women and men falling for pictures of people a decade plus younger than them and out of their league. Come on people!

  3. It sounds as if she lived a sheltered and submissive life with her deceased husband and didn’t know how to manage her life alone. When she passed the grief stage she immediately began searching for someone just like him and these bastards capitalized on her gullibility and desperation.

  4. These assholes hack into the dating site and extract info like emails, names, addresses and profile info. That’s all they need. Then they get to work.

  5. My aunt is on Fish in the Sea dating site.
    Tons of scammers.
She tells them to get lost thankfully but it’s crazy how many fakes there are.
They’re always out of country on business. They’re always widowers. They always call her my dear, my love, sweetheart, and always ask for money.
