World’s Biggest Kenny Rogers Bird Roaster

WUWT

“According to Rudy Evenson, Deputy Chief of Communications for Nevada Bureau of Land Management (NBLM) in Reno, as reported by Re Wire, a third of the newly constructed plant was put into action on the morning of Jan. 14, redirecting concentrated solar energy to a point 1,200 feet above the ground.”

“Unfortunately, about two hours into the test, engineers and biologists on site started noticing “streamers” – trails of smoke and steam caused by birds flying directly into the field of solar radiation. What moisture was on them instantly vaporized, and some instantly burst into flames – at least, until they began to frantically flap away. An estimated 130 birds were injured or killed during the test.”

Maybe there should be pictures of volunteers rubbing the birds with Dove liquid soap, in efforts to save their steaming corpses.

  1. Common core math question. If the plant (death ray ) operates for 8 hours a day, 30 days a month, how long will it be before Algore opens up a franchised fried chicken stand on the site?

  2. There’s no outrage because the cretins who like this sort of thing and funnel govt money to cronies to put them up are “environmentalists” and not “conservationists”. An enviro is a communist or left-leaning self-described “anarchist” who is committed to anything that makes (a) productive people poorer, and/or (b) parasitic people richer.

But y’all knew that already. That was for Larry.

  3. My understanding of this plant (bird holocaust aside) is that it’s never come close to the estimates of power generation the builders made. In order to get to the point of creating electricity a huge increase in the amount of natural gas they initially estimated is needed to heat the water sufficiently to create steam. The plant is a failure on a colossal scale and will never become cost effective nor will it ever come close to creating enough “clean” (except for those pesky bird carcases) to offset the pollution created in building the place.
As an aside I do miss Kenny Rogers Roasters. It only lasted a few years up here in Toronto but it was great chicken and sides.

  4. The birds did their part sacrificing for the greater good. Regarding the loss of any migratory/endangered/protected birds, doubtless the operator has already obtained (a post-dated) “takings” waiver, as is commonly done with wind farms.

  5. @crazyeighter; I agree it was a kickback scheme of immense proportions but I’ll bet cash money it was sold as though it would be “clean” and profitable in a few years after opening. If these guys sold shares the SEC would be on them, oh wait maybe not at least not the SEC under Obama.

  6. scr_north, they do not use natural gas in the process. There isn’t any in that part of the county. Your’re confusing this with the Bright Source project located outside of Primm, Nevada. Crescent Dunes hasn’t started producing energy yet. I should know– it is literally in my backyard.

  7. Ha ha ha aha hah aaha haa hha hahaha haha, stoooopp iiittttt! I’m laughing so hard I can’t type properly. They built the biggest solar rotisserie! Good for them, now call Guiness book of records and get this into it’s next edition! Oh and can we point that thing toward the Rio Grand river? Thanks.
