Had a teal and white 1964 side loader back in the early 1990s.

Had a ’63 Spyder and a ’61 I stripped for a dune buggy project. Fun cars.

As much as I love wonderful cars, I just realized how uninterested I am in what’s underneath the body of them. Engines, yes. Suspension, pump lines, etc., not so much.

I had a 60 and a 65. My dad had a 62 wagon and 66 convertible.

If a goldfish designed a vehicle.

Ole Jay got some cool rides.
Watch his Utube channel alot.

Corvairs, where the drive shaft breaks off and pole vaults the vehicle into somersaults.

…not to mention that when you get into an accident with one of these things YOU are the first one IN the scene!! VW’s Nazi Shitbox bus wuz even worse with only a 1/16th of an inch of sheet metal between you and the car in front of you!

I still think the 2nd gen Corvair car was one of the best looking designs to ever come out of Detroit. And the handling problems were due to the rear-engine layout (weight bias). Porsche is probably the only one to overcome those issues.
FWIW, the basic layout/design of the Corvair trucks/vans lives on in the Japanese mini trucks like the Honda Acty.

I had 60 model covair.. Loved it

My mom had a corvair, when we were tiny kids. I think it was a coupe? The back seat folded down and that was the only way we were able to see out the back windows. It was small and zippy. I think remember it being manual transmission. She got rid of the corvair because the car was gassing us with CO2 emissions. I know I told her a few times that I felt like my body was buzzing when we were driving around. She always had cool old cars but they never stayed with us for very long. Thinking back now, I bet she was on a mission to own every cool car she liked when she was a kid. My faves were the BelAire and the Comet. Those back break lights had eyebrows and looked like a face.

Ahh, takes me back to the days of left hand threads.

Unsafe at any speed. To those of you old enough to remember.

This post made me cry a little, I thought we got rid of these “unsafe at any speed” death traps.
GM should have put out a hit on Nader–would have done the world a favor.

I also had a friend in high school who converted a 66 corsa into a mid-engine V8 using the Crown Corv-8 kit. He installed a 327-365HP V* out of a wrecked 66 corvette. OMG that thing was fast! It could turn on a dime too! https://youtu.be/qPgI3FV-jqo

My dad had a 66 Ford Econoline Pickup. Same cabover as the Corvair but better-looking IMO. And the engine was between the seats. Three on the tree, huge bed. We could haul the whole cub scout den in that thing.
I never got to drive it, but I did get to drive the 65 van version a few years later because my dad liked the Econoline so much he bought a used Bell Telephone van. We drove that thing well into the 80’s.

There are two of these listed in a local rag that calls itself a news paper. $500.00 each, need restoration.

So… Anyone looking for a project? We have a Corvair rampside ready for restoration.

I remember a friend in elementary school whose mom had a corvair greenbier van. I specifically remember the whole gang riding it in to his birthday party at the bowling alley.

It’s an odd looking thing. I never saw one in my life and never knew they existed. GM could not have made too many of them.
Little Morphin’ Annie where are you located? I can always use a project.
Especially now that I’m out of work for the next couple of weeks.
