DailySignal:
Illinois State Senate President Don Harmon sent a letter April 14 on behalf of the Illinois Senate Democratic Caucus to members of Congress requesting $40 billion in federal funds for the beleaguered state.
Although the letter comes under the guise of unprecedented COVID-19 disruptions, the purposes for which Illinois and other states seek additional federal funds are anything but unprecedented. Opening the floodgates to federal taxpayer dollars to cover states’ self-imposed fiscal woes would only lead to even further fiscal recklessness.
Here are three ways that additional federal funds to states won’t help fight COVID-19 and will likely hurt federal taxpayers and states’ budgets in the long-run.
1. Congress already provided enough COVID-19 relief—states want unfettered funds. The Illinois letter makes clear that the state doesn’t need any more money to combat COVID-19. And, given the possibility that states are having to devise new spending related to COVID-19 just in order to use up the $150 billion they’ve already received, it’s clear that states have enough funds to combat the virus. keep reading
I’ve once again HAD IT with Trump. I listened to his press conference. He states that if we hadn’t done those shut downs, we would have had 3 million deaths. We are shown NO evidence that the shut down did anything. We have ample data to see that it did anything just by looking at the data we now have across states.
Trump was a Democrat his whole life and when pushed to the brink he has shown us what a DEMOCRAT does.
Tax and spend. Rape the treasury.
The clown who sent the letter should receive a short reply: GFY
Trump could get his guys to analyse the data. Show us what the shutdown ACTUALLY did – prolong the outbreak, bankrupt every American with a (real) job. Then give reasons to END the shutdown.
We are getting non of that. This is not leadership
@ jpm
How would you handle being between a rock and a hard place?
How would you handle the dims using a real virus to again try to impeach you?
How would you get the NIH and the CDC to out themselves on national TV?
How would you get the the people to figure out that computer modeling is bullshit.
Maybe the treehuggers will now transfer what they learned about WuFlu modeling to climate change modeling.
@jpm.
Even though you’ve had it with Trump, your preferred alternative is whom?
That would be helpful to those of us who kinda know Trump and the nonstop barrage and the hell he’s been through vs. Jpm’s insights.
Please elaborate.
Trump was left with two options. Do nothing and be blamed for every death with no actionable defense. Do something and still be blamed but have a defense and hope not to many people lose their minds and become irrational in their thought process. Those losing their minds might be better served remembering where this all started. It’s a large area that can be found on any world map called China.

Yeah, @jpm! You know. For an absolute truthy fact. That people whose business model is “yadda, yadda, yadda” yadding. Are going to agree that what they’re pushing is hokum. If you “yadda, yadda, yadda” at them. For free.

That’s the ticket!
Does President Trump have the Kobayashi Maru scenario which we all know can only be won by reprogramming the simulation? Sounds like the very essence of wartime politics – and we’re part of it. So, I’ll continue to rave against the FED, the bailouts, etc., and be patient with the President because the real game is going to get played after the shit clears.
Like: Article V. Convention Of The States.
(No booing!)
“Like: Article V. Convention Of The States.”
Remember what happened last time that was done?
We ended up with an entirely new governnment.
So keep in mind if you call for it that it will be dominated by people like Obama, Clinton, Schiff, Pelosi, AOC, etc. as it is being written.
the US government has no obligation to the ‘various States’, other than allowing their representatives have a voice (& vote) in the legislation of federal expenditures … a Republic, not a Democracy
the ‘various States’ govern themselves … which includes how their taxpayer money is allocated. once they take Federal taxpayer $$$, they are obligated to spend it as the Federal government has ‘granted’ it
seems the ‘various States’ want their ice cream & eat it too
… suck it up, buttercup
Call it like it is: Illinois finances are a dumpster fire. Chicago, with its bloated yet underfunded pensions, is the biggest culprit, but there are also other areas in this state where the liberal answer to everything is tax and spend, and buying votes with tax dollars is Democrat policy. Pritzkers’s answer was to raise taxes which, shockingly, didn’t work.
The Federal government can’t bail out Illinois, or any other blue state for that matter. $40 billion should go a long way to fix Illinois’ fiscal problems, but our legislators will find a way to piss that money away on other things. That’s how they roll.
If the Democrats were in charge all of the money would have diapered into their special interest projects. Maybe a high speed rail system, Planned Parenthood, Solar Energy, Wind Power, plastic bags. In the end some of ends up back in their own pockets. Selling off American business to the highest bidder. How are we completely dependent on China for so many products.
Dems have promised free everything. Look how f-cked up health care is. Anybody that had insurance had an increase in cost.
Dumb asses steal from their own campaign funds and you want them to manage more of your money.
Small businesses would have received nothing. Taxpayers would have received nothing.
For all the whiners out there, complaining about $1200, it is 1200% more the the Dems would have allowed.
The alternative 8s for trump to not push the lie that we saved 3000000 people and show us that the shutdown is bulshit using data
