A 58-year-old man was rescued from a small unheated metal shed on the north side of the British city of Carlisle on Wednesday. It is being asserted that the man had been enslaved at the age of 17 and held in bondage for 40 years.

Well, my first thought was to wonder if the slave was useful, milked cows, swept floors ordered football tickets etc..Given the high security of the shed it is easy to understand why he never escaped. Perhaps he was given an allowance and was under contract as a slave. Or, like my aunt Ellie, always bothering the cows, throwing rocks at our lighting, eating more than her share and fanning my uncle was beneath her so we locked her in the milk barn grain storage bin where she lived 18 years before dying of milk fever.

I know how the poor guy feels. When I started working at 16 and had to pay taxes, I understood that I was nothing more than a slave that was allowed to live away from the plantation. Personal property? Fugedaboutit! Just miss a tax payment to the Feds, State, County, City and see where you end up.

I doubt the slave master could keep his property without the help of the whole neighborhood. Watch, there’s going to be a cultural (i.e. Muslim) element here that enforced bondage. I just hope authorities check all the back yards along this street.
