Fred Astaire……what does he know about dance? I think I might have pulled a groin watching that.

Great! Cabe was also good!

Today’s audiences will accept any poop as “entertainment”. It only took 3 generations to remove talent from the gene base.

First take?
I can believe that.
Unrehearsed?
Well…
🙂

Wow! What athleticism. I agree with J6Pk – I pulled a groin muscle just watching that!

Cab Calloway – one of the greats.

may have been the first take … but it was definitely rehearsed
… those tables & bandstands had to be nailed down by someone!
& it was a very, very fantastic routine

Love those old dance classics. I remember watching dance follies movies. Help me out here please. Can’t remember the exact name. If anyone knows I would be grateful.

Where did you find this Claudia? Amazing! And look at BLM today! So sad. Watched both blues brothers movies today and saw aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton and the king of the blues BB King just to name a few. Seemed to me there was no animosity between different colors back then. Miss that and the talent.

What just happened?!?!
How do you pick yourself up from the splits?
I sprained my foot just turning over in my sleep. lolol
Yes! This is good entertainment. This should be the new half-time show at the superbowel. Either something like this or Ohio State, Southern U, and Grambling State marching bands combined.
I’ve seen this video a number of times over the years, and I’m still fascinated by each brother’s unique, creative interpretion of the routine. Rehearsed or not, that’s an amazing display of raw talent!

The husband introduced me to this routine many years ago. We never tire of watching it. Such talent is rare.

Do not mistake “unrehearsed” with “unchoreographed.” Just because they did not rehearse it does not mean that they had not worked it out and got everything set up for them to dance on the tables, desk, etc. They knew how to dance and do moves like that and could easily take it from the idea stage to the performance stage with no problem.
I never noticed it before, but it looked like the piano was sitting on a frame of 4×4’s. I’m sure the lid was reinforced as well. It may very well be that they did this with no rehearsal because they did not think the props would take more than one time through.
As my lovely Mrs said, I have seen that a number of times (and will watch it many more). I wish there were more Nicholas Brothers videos available. If I had seen them when I was young I may very well have wanted to learn to dance like that.
In the meantime I need to get the aspirin and the ice packs because of the muscles I pulled watching that.
