A World War II fighter pilot received an extra special present when vintage aircrafts flew over Boeing Field, about five miles south of downtown Seattle, honoring Dorothy Olsen’s 99th birthday, NBC Station KING reports.
She was one of about 1,000 female pilots during the war and flew 22 different types of fighter planes from factories to U.S. Army Air Force bases from 1943 to 1945.
After Olsen delivered the plane, male pilots would fly them overseas to combat destinations.
Great story. She looks pretty darn good for 99. It’s my understanding those old P-38’s were not easy to fly.
If I were her, I’d snuck one of those “51’s” to my barn in the back yard to fly for fun. Dang near as perfect as the Brits Spitfire!
God Bless you and Happy Birthday Dorothy!
That put a smile on my face! Thanks for posting!
Happy Birthday is right! What a lady!
God Bless You, Ms. Olsen, you and all the other ladies that flew for us.. and Happy Birthday
Better pilot than McCain.
