Too Poor To Not Have the Privilege of Driving Drunk

wcti

Some North Carolina Senate Democrats are concerned that passing more severe penalties and conditions for drunk drivers may place restrictive costs on poor offenders.
During debate in a Senate committee Thursday, Durham Sen. Floyd McKissick Jr.

Floyd_McKissick,_Jr.voiced concerns from some colleagues that poor drivers with drunken driving offenses are unable to afford the maintenance on devices installed in their cars requiring a breathalyzer test to start the engine. The Senate is considering legislation requiring more offenders to install the devices, as well as lowering the legal blood alcohol limit for repeat offenders and lessening the number of offenses needed to be charged with habitual drunk driving.
Republicans say the laws would reduce the hundreds of deaths caused each year by drunk driving in North Carolina.

  1. But Democrats and especially liberal Democrats, hate poor people. Democrats love environmental laws and regulations that raise the price of virtually everything, they champion unrealistic minimum wage laws that eliminate entry level jobs, they tax the crap out of the basic necessities of life, they enact housing laws and regulations that result in less housing stock available, and promote class warfare which makes people disinclined to work together. Sure, they send poor people some government money, but then take all money away through other schemes to keep poor people poor.

But I can see this politician’s point though – we need to keep poor people intoxicated so they will be even less able to figure out that all of this government “help” is screwing them.

  2. I’d be ‘fraid dey might tip ovuh if dey don’t have a breathalyzer, Senator McKissick.

We all know who will get to pay for whatever restrictions are placed on the poor drunks.

That’s the idea, dumbass; it’s called a deterrent. If you can’t afford the fines, etc. for DUI, then don’t drink and drive.
