Be A Survivor, Not A Victim

TheWellArmedWoman– I was once told I was an extremist for carrying concealed; nothing was going to ever happen, and, what on earth could I possibly fear anyway? My answer to that person was “Absolutely nothing!” Have you ever been told you are over-dramatic for carrying a firearm, or looked at strangely as if you are paranoid for doing so?

Have you ever wondered what you would do if you were alone and your home was invaded by a stranger who was bigger and more powerful than you? Yes, me too. In fact, I’ve thought about it a lot as part of my training and planning should I ever need to respond to such a situation. In the last few days, I have thought about it constantly.  Why, you ask? Because it actually happened to me.  MORE

  1. My wife and all my daughters (and son) were properly trained and practiced. for many years Each of my three daughters (and son) on their 13th birthday received a pistol of their choosing. They are now in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. Thank God nothing has happened that required any of them to put their skills to the test.

But they have the tools, knowledge and experience to act and to survive.

I’d rather have a gun and not need it, than need it and not have it.

  2. Why I carry, Constitution provides for it. I’m too young to die. I’m too old to take a beating and I’d rather defend myself now than call 911. That’s if I survive an incident.

  3. “Have you ever been told you are over-dramatic for carrying a firearm, or looked at strangely as if you are paranoid for doing so?”

Well, if you give into to what people think of you or how they look at you, you shouldn’t be carrying a firearm. If you give in to what people think of you, then you’ll give into most anything. I don’t carry because of the laws here in California. My home is armed though, and I have a right to protect it.

  4. I don’t worry about what others think. As long as I draw breath I’ll do what I please. If they don’t like it, ask me if I care!
As others have said, these days and times merit ccw!
Another theatre shooting?! I avoid situations like that. Low keyed is good.

  5. I don’t carry.
    Concealed or otherwise.

    Too many assholes need killin.

And round these parts, you’re more likely to have a meth head break into your house than to be assaulted on the street.

    Course, we’re pretty rural.
My 50 acres is the smallest lot on the road.

  6. “Have you ever been told you are over-dramatic for carrying a firearm, or looked at strangely as if you are paranoid for doing so?”

No. Why? BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS. Keep your mouth shut about it.

Golden Fox, Right now in most counties getting a CCW in California is a walk in the park. If you’re in a neighboring county to El Dorado county I can point you in the right direction.

  7. Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that’s it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.

There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we’d be more civilized if all guns were removed from society. But, a firearm makes it easier for an armed mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger’s potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat – it has no validity when most of a mugger’s potential marks are armed.

People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that’s the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.

[…] When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation–and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

The original article was written in 2005 and no longer exists, It is simply the best justification I ever read.
