I was playing pool with a friend and we usually play “name that song” because Sirius radio is piped in.
It was on the 70’s channel. As soon as this song started it hit me like one of those moments where something becomes dislodged from wayyyyyyyy wayyyy back in the cerebellum, in a spot that it was happy to lay undiscovered until you died.
The friend never heard it before and he doubted I knew it, But I started singing the chord changes a little ahead of the beat, so he knew I knew it.
I looked it up. It was never a hit in the U.S., so where I heard it, who knows?
It has an Abba meets Slade meets Little Eva vibe.
Anyone know it?
My sister and I used to make merciless fun of that song. I never heard it again until 1991, on a German oldies station. Must have been big over there way back when.
I remember that song. It was 1970 or 1971. My older sister sang it all the time. I remember it more from her than from the radio.
That, and “Run, Joey, Run”.
Big in the UK.
I don’t remember that song but I have to agree with commentor
grease52
…ed arrivarono gli hot pants :-)))
Buonanotte a tutti :-))
Apparently it did actually hit the U.S. Top 20 for a duet, Matt and Katie Kissoon. It’s one of those hateful songs, like Sylvia’s Mother, that once it’s there it never truly goes away…
I’ve never heard that. But I made it to about the 2 minute mark and had too track down some Iron Butterfly in hopes of permanently erasing it from my rememory banks.
What I want to know is when the hell do you have time to play pool? 🙂
Oh my goodness, that song preceded Twisted Sister..you’ll get it.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9AbeALNVkk&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Yes, I remember that song from radio. I even heard it playing while out and about this past week….store music? Weird song, like many others in the 70’s. How about Blinded by the Light? Seven minutes of auditory torture.

Sadly Yvonne Craig died Monday.
Batgirl from my childhood.
Makes me sad but she was 78!
Who knew?
In her honor I recommend tonight’s soothiness:

You made me stop listening to Mendelssohn to listen to THAT?
Gee, thanks.
Pool?
When do you sleep?
Yea I remember, but I always thought it was performed by the Chipmunks. Dave? Theodore? Alvin?
Nope. Never heard it before.
And here’s the companion piece.
And don’t forget this one.
Can’t say I’ve ever heard that one.
How about this one:

I think ABBA did this one too, but I like this version better. One of my favorites.
Mork, remember this?
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=C0IylrQhhCk
It was big down South, but I don’t think it broke out nationwide. I kinda liked it as a kid.
This sounds suspiciously like the sort of thing my oldest brother would curse about being the “worst shit ever” while sitting in his room with Budgie, Iron Claw or Black Sabbath cranked up to 10.
Of which, I’d have to agree with him.
So c’mon feel the noize
Girls grab the boys
We get wild, wild, wild,
We get wild, wild, wild,
So you think I got an evil mind
I tell you honey 🙂
very popular in europe- not popular in the us.

Yep, I remember that goofy song. The local pop radio station in my hometown was obsessed with playing it for awhile.
1st time I’ve heard it. That girl with the blonde hair had some pretty nice shorts though.
Nice, but I prefer the Judas Priest version.
Judas Priest!!!! Ain’t nothin better than Dirty Mac. Lol. Yea I enjoyed their cut too. They neve covered Rattle Snake Shake.
Third, “Lobo” was the artist who made the song a classic up in the North.

Y’all forced me to do this.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd….

I remember it but I couldn’t have told you the name or who performed it. And then Mork (above) had to remind me of Sylvia’s Mother. Earworms! Gackkkk
Now I’m trying to find a cheezy YT vid,
It was some early 70’s euro hippie band lip-synching their one hit (?) in a field, and featured a couple of dancing girls in Indian costume.
I think it was linked some time ago at iOTW..
What a colossal pile of suck. My life is a little less special having heard that metric ton of dreck.
Later:
Found it!

You’re welcome.
More pallet cleanser. Marty is bad ass.

Not even close!
I think this is the worst song ever produced and it was a hit in 1971.

Talk about earworms
OK, here’s a rare one, and unless you were born and raised SoCal you probably never heard of them, but, arguably some of the best guitar work ever. Tell me what you think.

Stranded, bubble gum music still sucks. It could’ve been worse like Little Arrows by Leapy Lee. I actually had a 45 of that one and don’t ask me why.
And who can ever forget My Dingaling by Chuck Berry from 1972, his most popular song ever. Don’t ask me why, it just was. Me I prefer Too Much Monkee Business, Roll Over Beethoven, Brown Eyed Handsome Man etc. And how do you get a 2-3 count in baseball if you hit a high fly into the stands?
Well, here she is in 2011.
She’s got more of a “chewy chewy burp burp” thing going on. But at least her voice is no longer irritatingly high pitched. 😀

I found my self one afternoon when I was listening to XM’s 50’s on 5 singing loudly along with The Ballad of Davy Crockett when they unexpectedly played it. I hadn’t heard it in a long time and I knew every word, talk about a song being stuck in your head for well over 50 years. My daughter was laughing at me she thought it was corny. It must mean I’m a true baby boomer.
I think this is the worst song ever produced
I can’t disagree! Worst song ever. I’d forgotten about this one.
Mr. Hat, ’71 found me in V/Nam, tapes were the norm, if anybody had played that, it would have been smashed into ribbons and shards.
There was a whole palette of songs available in ’71, many, like your song, didn’t appeal to the palate of conscripted soldiers, brought in by the pallet full to fight for LBJ and his industrial war machine’s conflict.
Had to listen to this just to clear my head.
Yes, it’s symbolic.

It’s Whipping Post, by the Allman Bros. I don’t know why it won’t play.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….jesus christ……………………………………………….
Can’t believe I interrupted Wilhelm Kempff for that … no, never heard it before …
I didn’t tell you the part about how I smashed up the entire pool hall with a 21 oz stick and jammed a cue ball into the mouth of the guy who was in charge of the radio?
Welcome to all Middle of the Road website visitors.
This is the definitive Middle of the Road website. We operate on behalf of the original 70’s group and all our information is corroborated by original founder members.

That is such classic Euro Pop…in the summer of 1977 I toured 5 countries in 3 weeks with a large group we were constantly bombarded with garbage like that being played on the airwaves and drinking holes/dance clubs.
Here is another group in particular was very popular at the time as well
Rivers Of Babylon – Boney M

Boney M Daddy cool

If I never hear it again, it will be too soon. YUCK!
We have already had best music polls here at iOTW.
Maybe it’s time for a WORST Ever poll ?
I’m going to go with Wildfire, followed closely by Honey.
Gack!
Undying love for the dead, always a mood enhancer.
It’s your story, tell it annnyway you like.
And you thought being “Rick Rolled” was bad. This one is REALLY heinous!
Ned Flanders lives!
Music is THE best way to teach anything, i.e., ABC song, “Columbus sailed the ocean blue,” etc. There’s a homeschooling outfit that puts math and science concepts to music a la “School House Rock.”
Thanks, Less, for the laugh!
I guess this is an open post now huh?
Shinedown…I’ll follow you:

I Have a dim recollection of the song but then that era had a huge number of odd little songs like this one. I don’t think it’s as bad as some of the comments seem to indicate, certainly there were a lot worse. At least it seems the group didn’t settle down into the drug and sex filled self destructive binge that other groups of that era did. They kind of just quit and moved on. According to wiki the group has another set of younger members and still plays. Just to put things in perspective that lead singer, the very cute blonde in the hotpants is 70 years old now.
Never heard it before. Or, saw the video. And I certainly would have remembered any band that had Bozo The Clown on drums!
OMG I’m twelve years old again!!!
Honey by Bobby Goldsboro is a real puker. Hell, anything by him makes me want to shoot whoever produced that rotten crap in the first place. And don’t even get me started on Watching Snotty Grow. And Harper Valley PTA is another one because the top 40 stations played it at least every 10-15 minutes when it came out in 68-69. If I ever hear it again it will be too soon.
Yes. That was the version I remember.
Aahh, Remember “Tennessee Birdwalk?”
They just don’t write silly songs any more.
Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini.

MeTV is playing a couple of the Batman episodes she was in on Saturday at 7PM. Damn she was good lookin’.
Ever laugh when non-Southerners try to say “killed him a b’ar when he was only three?”
Oh, yeah! I remember Boney M from the very dance clubs you mention, but in 1968-69 in Germany and Lux.
Worst: Ebony and Ivory, Stevie Wonder & Paul McCartney duet.
I couldn’t hit that station change fast enough.
Most people don’t know this, but Iron Butterfly drummer Ron Bushy played on the Space Negros album, “Dig Archaeology 1980-1990”.
While I cannot find a song from that specific album, here is one with the Space Negros doing In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.

for yur listening displeasure. All their other stuff sucks just as much or more. I think Ron just needed the money.
I’m a northener but had never heard the Lobo version until I clicked the link. I remember the Cymarron from my younger days.
