In the Forgotten MusicĀ thread I made a comment about a song that appears in Intellectual Froglegs – Reflections of My Life, by the Scottish group The Marmalade.
It’s a great song. Here it is performed live.
The lyrics were always for an old soul, not such a young guy like Dean Ford.
If there was ever a song to remake, THIS IS IT, and Dean Ford does a terrific job, making the song more poignant than ever.
CLICK THE RECORD FOR A GREAT REMAKEĀ
one of my favorites. Thanks
Similar to what the Hollies and Bee Gees were doing at the time. Love this one from the Bee Gees –

.
Is that a 78?
33 1/3rd?
45?
Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress!
OK, the 45’s had a larger hole…
That new version is refreshing. The girl with the cello really sweetens it up nicely.
That was beautiful, Fur. Thanks.
One of my very favorites when it came out, back in my teenage years. I think I still have the 45 in storage somewhere. Thank you for sharing this with us.
What ever happened to self reflective pop music that had something deep to say in the lyrics?
It seems like eons since I heard that. Thanks for the memories.
Well, that certainly pressure washed the Chirpy Cheep Cheep out of my head. Ahhh, the good old days…. Thanks BFH
Beautiful!
@LocoBlancoSaltine – Back in the 40s there actually were some large records with the conventional small hole that played at 45RPM. There was a lot of experimentation going on as manufacturers tried out new formats. RCA won out with what we know as the conventional 45 for a lot of reasons, but mainly for their record player. With the quick-change cam underneath it could change a record very quickly and the large spindle allowed you to stack about 10 records (I think) on it giving it more play time than an LP record. Also the records were thicker in the middle so that when it dropped on the spinning record the recording surfaces would not touch and scratch.
Terrific find, BFH!
I looked up Dean Ford and found this.
He’s re-releasing an old album he did with Alan Parsons, and there’s a teaser as well as a video of him here:

I can’t even remember the last time that I heard this song. It is a great song that should be played every once in a while. While over hyped sentimental crap like McArthur Park that needs to be banned forever. This one is definitely from the groove yard of forgotten favorites. Thank you
Kinda weird … but I remember that song.
What??? You don’t like tunes from ‘lil Kim, ‘lil Bow Wow, Big Numbnuts, Ice Tea, Ice Coffee, Dr. Diarrhea, or whatever the latest shitstain with a gun and “recording studio” produces?
Brings me back to when I was nine.
Ah, wonderful. Take me back…
Not usually a fan of remakes but that was beautiful. I’ve always liked that song.
I have the original. But I love this one. Makes me tear up a little…
He’s entitled because he sang the original.
Did I say “entitled”?
Uh oh.
I played it at like 6:30 this morning half awake and I bookmarked it. It’s good. And I did notice in my half sleep which is why I listened to it was mentioned that he was the original singer many years later.
Let me add that this was pretty powerful. It is almost like he wrote the song in his youth, not expressing it correctly, because it was meant 50 years later. It is very powerful in that sense.
