Mets Win – Series is 3 Zip

Not saying nothing. But there was a blog post I made awhile back that most everyone laughed at.

  1. I can’t remember laughing. But I do have a joke.

What’s the difference between a Scotsman and the Rolling Stones?

the Rolling stones say “hey, you get off of my cloud” the Scotsman says “hey, McLeod get off of my ewe”

  2. Yup, your crystal ball is working. I think on that same post I said I was rooting for Royals vs Mets. It’s a good thing I don’t bet on games because I jinx everyone I bet on. I still want to see a 7 game series.

  3. Well, honestly, I didn’t use a crystal ball.
I watched the Mets struggle for the first half with absolutely the best pitching the Mets have ever had. No one is close in baseball.
They struggled because they were fielding an offensive team, day in and day out, that was on par with a middling college team. John Mayberry Jr. was their clean-up hitter, for cripes sake.
But STILL the Mets were .500 at the break.

As soon as July ended the Mets upgraded the offense.
    Conforto came up.
    Wright came off disabled list.
    d’Arnaud came off disabled list.
    Duda came off disabled list.
The Mets acquired Yoenis Cespedes, Juan Uribe, Kelly Johnson.
Suddenly their line-up was more than adequate and the tension went away and everyone started hitting.

The pitching that kept the bulk of their games under 4 runs were being given 5. How could they lose?

I said they were the best team in baseball and people laughed because they kept looking at the Mets record at the time I made the pronouncement. It was frustrating. I really couldn’t even get people to understand what I was saying.

They kept pointing to other teams with better records and laughing at me.

  4. I don’t even care if the Cubs come storming back and win 4.
I really don’t. That would just be a flukey collapse. (They are not up 3 due to any fluke. Their pitching is rolling.)
It wouldn’t negate the primary point of my post at the time – that the Mets were not getting any of the respect they deserved.
I felt they were the best team in baseball (granted, my exposure to the American league is limited compared to the national league, but from what I’ve seen of the Royals the Mets match up fine) and my statement is closer to reality than not.

  5. I root for the Jets. But I don’t hate the Giants. I’ll root for them when the Jets are out of it.
Knicks. Never cared about the Nets. Never liked them.
Rangers. Islanders had great years and I rooted for them when they weren’t against the Rangers.

  6. It’s unbelievable how many teams youse guys have back east. Every hundred miles there is a new metropolitan area and a new set of teams. All we have for 1200 miles is the Mariners and the Seahawks.

  7. You’re a lot more even-keeled than most of my Long Island friends. They are either Jet fans and hate the Giants or vice-versa. Met fans and hate the Yankees. I am a Giants fan and will root for the Jets when there is nothing else in play. I root for the Devils, which pisses them off. I lost interest in pro Basketball back in the 90’s. But that is probably because I went to school in the 80’s in Boston and became a Celtics fan. Oh, and grew up a young Yankees fan, but crossed over to the Mets back in ’84 or ’85 because of Keith Hernandez, when I started to become a Met’s fan.
