9 Comments on ‘I LIKE IKE’: DONALD TRUMP CHANNELS DWIGHT EISENHOWER
Eisenhower? Isn’t that the same mediocre General that was so busy planning that the Soviets have 1st entry into Berlin that he failed to plan a possible Battle of the Bulge retaliation. With a better leader a lot of Americans wouldn’t have died.
Time’s headline today would be: IKE’S MILITARY – TRANSPHOBIC OR JUST RACIST?
In war, no plan survives the first contact intact. And we can’t blame Eisenhower for being hamstrung by his comsymp commander in chief. And those effed up Sherman tanks.
And any prez who names his deportation plan “Operation Wetback” can’t be all that bad. Troll on, Trump.
81,116 dead or missing
280,251 sick or wounded
Russian casualties in Berlin. (Wikipedia)
Operation Wetback II is teeing up!

I agree.
Many strategic mistakes were made during WWII.
Politics complicated matters significantly.
Ike still better than Monty.
The Sherman was a disaster which only triumphed be the sheer number thrown at the Germans. The armor was thin, the gun was weak, the tread was too narrow and the suspension system was from the WWI era. The irony was that an American had invented a modern, superior suspension which the army rejected. Both the the Germans and Russians used it, instead. The first batch of Sherman tanks had air-cooled radial aircraft engines, fercryinoutloud. That America couldn’t field a competitive main battle tank until the very end of the war is a shame.
The point is Trump greatly admires and relates to the tough guys of yore — the ones who chomped down on their cigars and didn’t back down from a righteous fight no matter how outnumbered they may have been.
On the stump he frequently compares many of today’s military brass going on tee vee to talk about “how hard it all is” versus what he wants his generals to be doing, namely “Out there kicking a$$!”

What’s not to love about that?
