A common thread among terrorists is that they do not expect or plan to survive their attacks on unarmed citizens. Therefore, whether or not they have banned weapons in committing their crimes, or whether or not they will be punished for using a banned weapon is absolutely no factor in their planning. Pipe bombs are illegal in California, but that piece of legislation didn’t seem to deter Farook or Malik at all. Worrying about a speeding ticket on their way out of the San Bernardino center didn’t seem to worry these folks either.
Mark Furman was one of the few honest talking heads on television last night. In his view, and without qualification Farook and Malik were terrorists. It does not matter if ISIS instructed them, or if they acted as lone wolves, or if Farook was mad at some of his co-workers, or even if they were acting on some sort of religious conviction – they chose to shoot up a place full of civilians and try to kill as many of these people as possible. This makes them terrorists, and there is no need to pussy foot around this characterization.
What morons who run rags like the Daily News want to do is take away protection from innocent peole in the deranged hope that this will convince terrorists to…stop, or something. In places that have been forced to deal with terrorism for decades – Israel comes to mind – their people are wondering why ignorant assholes like the people at the Daily News even have any audience whatsoever.
