1. That rendition was jaw dropping.

2. I’m not normally a fan of Lady Gaga, but I guess it’s hard to sing with a bag over your head (there’s no nice way to say ugly).
   But, she did a great job of this and didn’t destroy it with warbling and caterwauling like black singers like to do.

3. I may be in the minority on this one but just like church, I think anthems should be participatory for those in attendance, not opportunities for people to put on a performance…shrug…having an entire stadium singing their hearts out is way more goose bump inducing than for me.

4. Every close-up of player or coach reflected the emotion she put into that song. I think I saw some players with tears running down their cheeks.

   But the absolute best part was the huge sustained cheer that went up when a group of U.S. soldiers based in Iraq was shown on the jumbotron.

5. I loved it. One of the best ever renditions that I’ve heard. The BEST ever on the field. I am now a Lady Gaga fan even though I never heard her sing before. What a pleasure.

   For me, nothing tops Wayne Messmer singing it at the ’91 NHL All Star game. Search for it on YT. The crowd’s cheers will make you proud to be an American.

13. Renee Fleming gave a technically magnificent performance a couple of years ago and Whitney Houston was all power and vocal control. But Ga Ga put herself in the top 5.

    I hope it was more than just another performance for her.

19. See, I’ve heard her do some small pieces before that showed me she was the real deal. You know those old Hollywood movies where the singer in the dinner club was stupendous – she reminded me of them. A REAL talent that does not need boobs out and twerking and all that. Sad to me that she goes too mainstream with her work because she is a phenom. I loved the way she did this.

    I couldn’t name one of her songs, if my life depended on it, but Ms Gaga sang the songs from The Sound of Music to perfection.
