Albert Einstein would have said it’s about time – and space.
A century ago, the genius behind the general theory of relativity predicted the existence of gravitational waves, the so-called ripples in the fabric of space-time.
On Thursday, scientists sent tides of euphoria in the world of physics and astronomy when they announced that they have finally detected the waves– which are expected to open a new window into our understanding of the cosmos.
Does this mean I can travel back in time to Hawaii or Kenya circa 1961?
Can I bring a fluffy pillow?
What is all this talk of black hoes merging.
Meanwhile, somewhere in England, Stephen Hawking is gnashing his teeth.
Somewhere there’s a grave, probably in Maryland, in which Joe Weber is smiling a victorious smile at the vindication of his laughed-at work. Apparently, it was “settled science” that there was no such thing as gravity waves.
That’s heavy, man.
@finai: Stephen Hawking probably wishes he were able to gnash anything, much less his teeth.
😉
Also right about pemanent waves.
Einstein also postulated that gravity was a condition of space.
The “shape” of space as it relates to mass.
BTW Albert Einstein is a “white” man.
Just sayin’
Can you imagine giving him todays computers!
There you go again with those gravitational waves, Moriarty.
