IJReview: Justice Antonin Scalia passed away Friday at the age of 79. The conservative-leaning, Reagan appointed Justice was famous for his dry, blistering dissents and firm commitment to Constitutional originalism. Scalia, who was educated at Harvard Law and was a practicing Roman Catholic, did not mince words on the following hot-button issues:
On Constitutional Flexibility
That’s the argument of flexibility and it goes something like this: The Constitution is over 200 years old and societies change. It has to change with society, like a living organism, or it will become brittle and break. But you would have to be an idiot to believe that. The Constitution is not a living organism, it is a legal document. It says something and doesn’t say other things.

What a giant of a man. I get tired of listening to the politicians – even the ones I really like cause so many times it seems like the same old blah, blah, blah. Scalia was always one that I’d stop whatever I was doing to listen to what he had to say, and he never disappointed. What a loss. Thanks for posting MJA.
Most of his pronouncements I agree with. One or two I do not. However, I think that he, more than anyone, would understand and approve of that. It’s what democracy is all about.
RIP, Justice Scalia. Let’s hope we can find a replacement for you that is even half as qualified as you were.

To all the conspiracy theorists who are looking for (as W.C. Fields would term it) a Ubangi in the fuel supply, in regard to Scalia’s death, please try not to get too worked up. People frequently die of natural causes at advanced ages (e.g., 79), sometimes even younger. At this point there is no reason to think otherwise.
