Prof Stanley Riddell from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle annouced at a medical conference recently that “The early data is unprecedented” on their experimental treatment for leukemia patients with a two-to-five month prognosis.
More than 90% of these terminally ill patientswent into remission. Basically, they take T-cells from a patient’s immune system and “genetically reprogram the T-cell to seek out and recognise [SIC] and destroy the patient’s tumour [SIC] cells.”
The treatment is not without risk. two patients died from an extreme immune response. It only works on blood cancer and not on “solid” tumor cancers.
This is progress you can believe in!

This is very good news. I hope we see major improvement in leukemia outcomes in the near future. I believe I may go home and see if Mrs. Uncle will join me in a glass of something nice and toast the good doctors.
It is good to read of such progress, there was also some good news about MS not that long ago as I recall.

Trials are underway for a new procedure for localized tumors. They coat smallpox (and other viruses you have an immune response to) with fragments of tumor proteins. Your T cells see the virus and destroy them. In the process the T cells see the genetic differences and build a messenger (rna) signal that is sent throughout the body to alert other tbcells.
One of the trial patients had a golf ball sized skin/bone tumor in their forehead. After a week with flue like symptoms it was gone

While on this subject, please send a prayer for “T,” a wonderful young mother of 3 small boys who is again undergoing chemo for this disease. Her DH and inlaws are once again holding down the fort while DH is trying to spread himself between work, the boys, and his sick wife. The university hospital where she’s at is also looking for a close relative for stem cells for therapy – if they can get her to go back into remission.
