Mately, a company marketing sexual disease testing kits used the Sesame Street duo of Bert and Ernie in a recent ad.
Mately is trying to crowd source $500,000 on Indiegogo to get its business going.
The ad was “unauthorized, unlicensed, use of the characters.”
They better raise a few million more because the copyright owners have issued a cease and desist order.
I… have a feeling that Jim Henson isn’t very happy right now. Neither am I to be honest. Freaks need to leave sesame street alone, and stop sexualizing Erine and Burt! They’re practically family to me and millions of others who grew up with them. :/
One cease and desist letter, along with a federal lawsuit from Henson et al’s lawyers will end it. If they’re begging for start up money there is no way they can fight whatever huge law firm Henson uses. The copyright violation is ridiculously obvious.
You have to wonder how they thought they’d get away with it.

I don’t mean to be all Cliff Clavin on y’all, but did you know Bert and Ernie came to be because of “It’s a Wonderful Life”?
“Life’s a dog eat dog world and I’m wearing Milkbone underwear.”
Gee, Ernie, if everything is positive, I’d think you’d have a lot to worry about. Positive for Clap, Syph, herpes, etc.
