It’s not every day you have a proud and loud defense of Israel from a rock star.
They are usually unthinking knee-jerk derpwads who sign on to boycott Israel because… well, because. (They could never articulate a reason that would made any sense whatsoever.)
Dylan wrote a song in 1983 called Neighborhood Bully.
Here are the lyrics:
His enemies say he’s on their land
They got him outnumbered about a million to one
He got no place to escape to, no place to run
He’s the neighborhood bully.
The neighborhood bully he just lives to survive
He’s criticized and condemned for being alive
He’s not supposed to fight back, he’s supposed to have thick skin
He’s supposed to lay down and die when his door is kicked in
He’s the neighborhood bully.
The neighborhood bully been driven out of every land
He’s wandered the earth an exiled man
Seen his family scattered, his people hounded and torn
He’s always on trial for just being born
He’s the neighborhood bully.
Well, he knocked out a lynch mob, he was criticized
Old women condemned him, said he could apologize
Then he destroyed a bomb factory, nobody was glad
The bombs were meant for him. He was supposed to feel bad
He’s the neighborhood bully.
Well, the chances are against it, and the odds are slim
That he’ll live by the rules that the world makes for him
‘Cause there’s a noose at his neck and a gun at his back
And a licence to kill him is given out to every maniac
He’s the neighborhood bully.
Well, he got no allies to really speak of
What he gets he must pay for, he don’t get it out of love
He buys obsolete weapons and he won’t be denied
But no one sends flesh and blood to fight by his side
He’s the neighborhood bully.
Well, he’s surrounded by pacifists who all want peace
They pray for it nightly that the bloodshed must cease
Now, they wouldn’t hurt a fly. To hurt one they would weep
They lay and they wait for this bully to fall asleep
He’s the neighborhood bully.
Every empire that’s enslaved him is gone
Egypt and Rome, even the great Babylon
He’s made a garden of paradise in the desert sand
In bed with nobody, under no one’s command
He’s the neighborhood bully.
Now his holiest books have been trampled upon
No contract that he signed was worth that what it was written on
He took the crumbs of the world and he turned it into wealth
Took sickness and disease and he turned it into health
He’s the neighborhood bully.
What’s anybody indebted to him for ?
Nothing, they say. He just likes to cause war
Pride and prejudice and superstition indeed
They wait for this bully like a dog waits to feed
He’s the neighborhood bully.
What has he done to wear so many scars ?
Does he change the course of rivers ? Does he pollute the moon and stars ?
Neighborhood bully, standing on the hill
Running out the clock, time standing still
Neighborhood bully.

Born Robert Allen Zimmerman and raised Jewish in Wisconsin, Dylan has maintained Israel ties throughout his life. He visited the country several times in the late 1960s and 1970s and even took steps toward joining a kibbutz. He played three shows in Israel in 1987, 1993 and 2011. The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement pressed him to cancel his most recent performance — to no avail.
Even more recently, Israelis can thank Dylan for the 2014 Rolling Stones concert in Tel Aviv, the band’s first visit to the country. According to Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, Dylan gave them the idea.
“He was coming off stage and said, ‘We’re going to Tel Aviv,’” Wood told Israel’s Channel 2 at the time. “He had a big smile on his face and said he loved it there.”
On top of that, today (it is still the 24th here on the left coast) is his 75th birthday.
Personally I don’t like him. But this person loves him

I played several of his songs today in honor of his birthday. Laura Ingraham pretty much dedicated her show to him today. He’s quit a poet.
Born in Minnesota, not Wisconson. Someone slipped the Israeli National News some bad information.
I like Dylan’s writing, but hate his voice. Could care less if he’s Jewish. I also like Israel. I have no problem giving them military equipment, but that’s all we should give them. If they want to bomb the fuck out of Palestine, or any other raghead nation, that should be their decision, we should stay the fuck out of that side of it.
My reasoning is that Israel is the main focus of Muslim hatred. While it exists, the west doesn’t get the full attention of the Islamic assholes. Without Israel, we would see a shitload more terrorist attacks on our own soil, and I personally don’t want to have to fight a war on American soil.
Steve Wilson is a other rock god who lives Israel and mocks Roger Waters for boycotting the Jewish state. 😎
Any Jewish person who aids and abets the enemies of Israel are no better than the Kapos in the camps.
They are a disgrace to themselves, to their families and to the world-wide Jewish community.
Too many accusations of plagiarism for me.
Jimmy all artists stand on what has gone before. Its just reality. None of them hang in the empty air. If they try to its usually shit.
Bobby Zimmerman was born and raised in MN. His parents lived in Duluth for a short time, and Hibbing, were Bobby became a musician. Hiway 61 goes south of Duluth.
Oh yeah, he hasn’t looked that well for 50 years…
