A Few Thoughts On the 2nd Amendment

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

64,999,987 firearms owners killed no one yesterday.

“A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity.” Sigmund Freud

“He [Jesus] said to them, ‘But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.’ “ (Luke 22:36)

“Why should I, or the NRA, go sit down with a group of people that have spent a lifetime trying to destroy the second amendment…?” – Wayne LaPierre

“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”
-Wayne LaPierre

The Second Amendment is the RESET button of the United States Constitution. -Doug McKay

When democracy devolves into tyranny the armed citizen still gets to vote. -Mike Vanderboegh

“The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” (Thomas Jefferson)

“Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms
each man against his own bosom? Congress shall have no power to disarm the militia.
Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an
American … The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or
state governments, but where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the People.”

— Tench Coxe, 1788.

The 2nd Amendment DOES NOT give me the right to bear arms. It simply documents it.  Trash it if you want. If you come for my guns, your fate at the bottom of my driveway will be the same regardless of what is written on a piece of paper. – Jethro

  1. No Christian goes about unarmed as Jesus himself instructed us otherwise.
The Christian founders of this country recognized that while Christians are obligated to be armed, non Christians still retain a right to human dignity.
As a result the second amendment allows other faiths latitude.
The 2nd amendment also sets the militia (the people) at equal footing with the military to prevent a president from doing what Lincoln did.

  2. The Second Amendment is restrictive: It specifically forbids the government from infringing on the right to keep and bear arms. They have no legitimate power to do so, it is specifically denied to them.

Thus, all ‘gun control’ legislation is unconstitutional. Every single line, of every last such law, is completely illegitimate.

Remember that when you’re on a jury.

  3. America, the only place on Earth where the Constitution recognizes our natural rights and freedoms come not from other men but from our Creator.
Having absolute control over our own protection of life and property, and freedom from tyranny is in the warp and weft of our fabric, and cannot be separated out.

  4. Jethro defines it perfectly and any gun law is an infringement. The only other thing I would ad is that his country was born out of the muzzle of a gun. The west was settled with guns. There are parts of this country where a gun is just another tool. If that bothers you move to fucking France. We really need to start recalling some of these asshole traitorous politicians.

  5. Sure, let’s trust the government…

On 9/11/2001 muslim terrorists took over airplanes with box cutters.
Afterwards our government spent billions taking away toe-nail clippers and cavity searching 80 yr old wheelchair-bound white women.

    My cold, dead fingers

  6. Just because I haven’t had to kill anyone with a firearm in almost a half century doesn’t mean I can’t take a quick referrer course on how to do so!

Oh, I forgot….I teach that! Never mind.

  7. Concerning the Second Amendment. Everyone stops at the Second Amendment, without looking further into the Constitution of These United States. For those that insist that militia means the Army, just a skosh down into the enumerated powers of The Congress, we find that Congress has the enumerated power

To raise and support Armies, but no appropriation of money to that use shall be for a longer term than two years.

Okay, so Armies are specifically mentioned. But a few lines down, we se that Congress has the power

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress insurrections and repel invasions.

So the Militia is mentions specifically and separately from the Armies. They are different entities.

As to whether or not they Founding Fathers intended the citizens of These United States to possess and own weapons of war, If we pop up a line or tow, we find that there is the enumerated power to declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water

From Dictionary.com (yes, I know) a letter of marque is defined as a license granted by a state to a private citizen to capture and confiscate the merchant ships of another nation.

It is granting private citizens the authority to commit acts of war. Committing Acts of War requires the Weapons of War.

    Just a few random thoughts

  8. Forensic editing shows the word “regulated” meant ” armed”. Add that to AC’so comment, every word of every gun law is null and void. The ATFE should be teaching citizens about firearms and how to use them proficiently

  9. Marach, On weapons of war, I agree. As far as I’m concerned, if the military has it, then so should the general public. If a citizen can afford the care and feeding of an F18a, then he should have the ability to have one. The same goes for miniguns, select fire, suppressors, tanks, howitzers, etc. Not just because, but because they are the very tools that will be needed to defeat a tyrannical government.

Also, Robert Heinlein said it best:”An armed society is a polite society”

  10. “When a liberal breathlessly claims that “Violence never solved anything!”, How do you reply?”

I point out to them every mass murder in the last 50 years was a liberal democrat. The conversation usually end with them taking a swing at me.

  11. From the 5th Amendment:
“…except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger;”
There is a clear distinction between the Army and Navy, and the Militia. The second Amendment clearly speaks to the citizen, not the military. Since the 2nd and 5th Amendments were written at the same time, there can be no confusion as to the meanings of the different groups.

  12. Brad, Replace every spell checked word with the nasty word, fuck.

That’s every goof that wants my iron. I’ll try and catch it before it changes.

    Fuck, the fucking fuckers!

  13. If these fancy politicians treat We The People this poorly when we’re armed to the teeth, just imagine what they’ll be willing to do once they’ve taken away all our guns.

  14. A few more to remember:

“The natural liberty of man is to be free from any superior power on Earth, and not to be under the will or legislative authority of man, but only to have the law of nature for his rule.”
    ―Samuel Adams

“If ever the Time should come, when vain & aspiring Men shall possess the highest Seats in Government, our Country will stand in Need of its experienced Patriots to prevent its Ruin.”
    ―Samuel Adams

(Those Patriots are us, every armed citizen)

“The Constitution shall never be construed… to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms.”
    ―Samuel Adams

“I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people except for a few public officials.”
    ―George Mason

“That the people have a Right to mass and to bear arms; that a well regulated militia composed of the Body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper natural and safe defense of a free state, that standing armies, in time of peace, are dangerous to liberty, and therefore ought to be avoided.”
    ―George Mason

    Great post Jethro!
