  2. As the first born son of the Scottish and Irish diaspora I can attest to the success of the American dream. My father’s family emigrated from Scotland in the early 1920s. None of them were rich or famous just hard working blue collar types who generally arrived with less than a few thousand dollars in their pockets (of course they “real” dollars in those days). By 1930 they had jobs, owned homes, assimilated and became otherwise contributing members of their communities. That should be the criteria for allowing anybody, no matter their ethnicity or religion, to permanently stay in the US.
