Cruising For Trouble – IOTW Report

Cruising For Trouble

The Crystal Serenity setting off today from Anchorage, AL on a cruise through the Northwest Passage and expects to arrive in New York City on September 17.  It is the largest passenger vessel to attempt the Passage.  They are going to have to contend with uncharted waters, shallow channels and more ice in the way than expected.

  1. Anyone going on that cruise is an idiot and the cruiseline management should have their heads examined, hopefully by primitive trepanning.

These fucktards have followed the far-Left “Global Warming” narrative to the point that they think there is nothing but clear waters and clear sailing ahead when instead the reality is harsh Arctic conditions and ice-packed passages choked with hull-piercing ice.

Now if they offered as an option Long-Range Sniping For Polar Bear, I might give it a shot….

  2. I’ve wanted to cruise on an ice chopper ever since I saw the excursion written up in a Lands End clothing catalog. Unfortunately never did it. Now something like that would chop up what’s left of my spinal column. 🙁

Those going on a passenger ship are NUTS. Never would do that. How many rescuers will be endangered if the NUTS get irretrievably stuck.

  3. They are going to have an “escort vessel” and heliocopter? Does that mean we the taxpayers are paying the U.S. Coast Guard to escort this cruise ship?!

  4. They will be shivering in their cabins burning diesel to stay warm 90% of the time. The average High/Low for Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, Canada the first week of September is 41F/33F.

  5. Looks as though the US Coast Guard is heavily involved.
    Why?
Is the Cruise line paying for the coast guard’s research time, planning and preparation or are we the taxpayers picking up the tab??

  6. The accompanying article said that Artic ice is at its lowest level since satellite data has been recorded. It also mentioned that we have been keeping satellite data only since 1979.

That’s less than 40 years, and 40 years is an inconsequential blip in geological time. Making long term conclusions based on very short term observations is how real estate speculators and stock market players lose their life savings.

  7. Crystal Cruise lines is one of the top of line cruise companies. This trip was sold out almost the day it came on line for reservations. It was way too risky for me to book. I hope they restocked the ship before leaving, but I doubt it as everything is barged into Alaska.

Will #NeverTrump pea brains be on board? If so, it truly is a ship of fools.

I’m pretty sure most on board will be conservatives, in their late 60’s, no children on board. Liberals don’t spend their money on cruises – except for the ignorant ones whom we have met a few. We have cruise #38 and #39 coming up in October, and we won’t be around for the election. Okay with us.

Yes, if it’s in US waters. If anyone gets airlifted or lifeboat lifted off the ship by the US Coast Guard, the taxpayers pay for that. Saw that happen once on a cruise. The woman got lucky too, she didn’t have trip insurance. She had a heart attack. It’s not unusual for this to happen on a cruise ship.

  10. Two times in the past that passage has been open.
IIRC the most recent time was in the 30’s, but tour boats took people through it then.
As near as can be ascertained it has opened up every hundred odd years for quite some time as the Indians also recounted its periodic appearance. Possibly that is the source of the ‘Northwest passage’ stories.
History is just another thing that the anti-science left has little use for.
