Chuck Yeager is a true American treasure. The man has done more in aircraft than most people can ever dream about – and the amazing thing is that he survived it all. What a guy!
I bet he clinks when he walks
There’s more honesty, good judgment, and strength of character in Chuck Yeager’s pinky fingernail than in Dead-eye’s entire body.
I got to meet and visit with General Yeager several times, years ago, through a mutual friend in the aviation community. He’s not a big guy, but he’s merger than life. No room can hold him.
Recall that when he was advising on the film ‘The Right Stuff’, he played an extra working at Pancho Barnes’ place. He was the one who suggested it, which was so amazing to people associated with the film. He reportely laughed and said, “Hell, I’ve done just about ever’thang else, so why not the movies!”
A National Treasure. And a humble one, at that.

Yeager once shot a deer at 600 yards. He had incredible eyesight.
He broke the sound barrier in the X-1 with broken ribs.

600 yards, wow-I feel pathetic. I don’t think I’d even be able to see one that far away much less drop it.
I have to get close, like 100-150 yard close to be sure it’s 1 shot. As much as I dislike deer, I would hate to only wound one-everyone I’ve ever was got only 1 shot.
