Clinical trials are underway for a new drug, aducanumab, that shows promise of cleaning out the amyloid plaque proteins from the brain of Alzheimer’s patients. The treatment relies on anti-bodies that attach themselves to the unwanted amyloid clusters and signal to the immune system to attack.
Some researchers question whether the amyloid plaque protein causes Alzheimer’s or is merely a byproduct. Removing the junk may not actually stop the disease.
Trials on the new drug are being conducted in Las Vegas, Ohio and Florida by the Cleveland Clinic.
Not only is my short term memory bad but so is my short term memory.
Lazlo’s Sainted Mother passed from that disease.
She even forgot she smoked!
My brother Basil brought her her carton of Player’s and she looked at him like he was crazy
The older I get the more dangerous shit I’m going to try
“The older I get the more dangerous shit I’m going to try”
That’s my plan too. Should keep me from getting too old.
My poor, sweet mother. Her heart doctor is at the Cleveland Clinic. How wonderful it would be if she could participate in the clinical trials. Couldn’t hurt, might help.
My dear Mother also succumbed to this hideous disease.
Any new developments that offer hope are welcome.
I want to go out like Robert Duval and Michael Cain in Second hand lions.
Trying to fly upside down through a barn.
Lazlo…BEAUTIFUL!….Another option is to go out like Nelson Rockefeller….nekked, on top of my mistress…..
Watching my Dad deal with it breaks my heart.
It will only be for the rich. Insurance probably won’t cover it and it will be $1000.00 a pill.
To all you dear folks currently dealing with or have lost loved ones to this terrible disease, God bless you and keep you. It took my mom, too.
Gubmint all atwitter about Zika while this epidemic rages free and ignored.
Really hoping this is an answer to the prayers of families affected by this horrible disease. My mother is in the late stage. She’s stubborn and seems to be holding on as long as she can.
Bet that will drop the prices of baby parts and embryo futures …
Even if this isn’t the right treatment, any progress is forward progress. This is one illness that deserves all the resources it needs.
No sick person is going to hear about a possible treatment or cure for their illness and say, “you know what? I’ll pass”. Just let them try it, especially if they have nothing to lose!
