Alzheimer Treatment Attacks Brain Protein Plaque – IOTW Report

Alzheimer Treatment Attacks Brain Protein Plaque

Clinical trials are underway for a new drug, aducanumab, that shows promise of cleaning out the amyloid plaque proteins from the brain of Alzheimer’s patients. The treatment relies on anti-bodies that attach themselves to the unwanted amyloid clusters and signal to the immune system to attack.

Some researchers question whether the amyloid plaque protein causes Alzheimer’s or is merely a byproduct.  Removing the junk may not actually stop the disease.

Trials on the new drug are being conducted in Las Vegas, Ohio and Florida by the Cleveland Clinic.

  3. Really hoping this is an answer to the prayers of families affected by this horrible disease. My mother is in the late stage. She’s stubborn and seems to be holding on as long as she can.

  4. No sick person is going to hear about a possible treatment or cure for their illness and say, “you know what? I’ll pass”. Just let them try it, especially if they have nothing to lose!
