New York bomber’s father denies all knowledge of his terror plot as classmates reveal he was a class clown who ‘found religion on trips to Afghanistan’ two years ago

  • Ahmad Rahami, 28, came to the US when he was around seven years old after his parents sought asylum in the US
  • He was ‘Americanized’ and a class clown according to his childhood friends and customers at his family’s restaurant
  • But he made a life-changing trip to Afghanistan years ago, after which he began to wear traditional dress
  • He also visited Pakistan and married a Pakistani woman, it was reported
  • He and his father Mohammad Sr, 53, and his brother Mohammad, brought a lawsuit against local police for harassment in 2011
  • They said that local residents also racially abused them, claiming: ‘Muslims don’t belong here’
  • Rahami was taken into custody Monday morning after a shoot-out with cops in New Jersey
  • It’s believed he was responsible for a spate of bombings in both NJ and New York
