He said his post ‘was brief, since it was Twitter, but blocking highways is dangerous and I don’t think people should stop for a mob, especially when it’s been violent.’

I agree. And I’ve had police officers advise me to do exactly what Glenn Reynolds has suggested.
Do not get your car blocked in by a mob. Run them down if they attempt to do this.

I carry a Berretta M9 everywhere I go with 3 spare magazines so I don’t think a mob is going to get me out of my vehicle.
I was in fear of my life. If I hadn’t floored the accelerator and run over dozens of rioters, they would have dragged us out of our car, set it on fire, and then robbed, raped and killed us. It was self-defense.
There are two simple benchmarks to go by in situations like this:
1) if the people are peaceful and not damaging property or committing other violenece, it’s a protest. Otherwise it’s a riot and the authorities need to stomp on it HARD.
2) if it’s a riot and breakdown of civil order and some guy comes out of a looted store with a bag of bread, he’s scavenging food for his family and it’s understandable. But if the guy is coming out with a stolen flatscreen tv, that’s LOOTING and he needs to be arrested. If its during martial law and he resists arrest, shoot his ass right there.
