Hasta La Vista, Lionfish – IOTW Report

Hasta La Vista, Lionfish

An invasive species along our Atlantic Coast and Caribbean, the lionfish is a prolific apex predator that eats so much it gets fatty liver disease.  Introduced by humans, it is now being targeted for elimination before the beast wipes out the marine eco-systems it has invaded.

While divers are able to spear the thing in shallower waters, they have difficulty going after them in depths of around 200 feet, where most lionfish hang out.  So robot designers have formed a consortium called RISE, Robots In Service of the Environment, and are preparing to test launch a killer robot to  track down these unwanted guests and zap them with a charge of electricity.

  1. News Bulletin: “At a White House press conference sponsored by President Obama, it was announced that Pterois mombasae, also known as the African Lionfish, will be the first species targeted by the new device.

Unfortunately, one of the President’s Secret Service bodyguards, who suffers from auditory dyslexia, misheard the phrase ‘we’re going to kill the African Lionfish’ as ‘we’re going to kill the Lyin’ African, bitch’, and several scientists were hit by gunfire in the resulting melee.”

  2. You want to bet they’ll fuckup and kick off a dozen or so endangered fish instead. Meanwhile the Lionfish will start stripping down these robots for parts and putting together their own pimpmobiles.
