TRUMP- “Let’s drain the swamp by having term limits… stop the cycle of corruption:

The term “career politician” should never have become “a thing.”

US News

Donald Trump promised to “drain the swamp” in Washington, D.C., pledging to reduce corruption by stopping the revolving door between the government and the lobbying firms that buy influence and pressing for the passage of a constitutional amendment that would institute term limits for Congress.

The GOP nominee announced his support for federal term limits in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Tuesday, a day after proposing a five-point ethics reform package that would bar executive branch officials, members of Congress and their staff members from immediately taking lucrative K Street jobs.

“Decades of failure in Washington, and decades of special interest dealing, must come to an end,” Trump told an approving crowd. “We have to break the cycle of corruption, and we have to give new voices a chance to go into government service.”

  1. Instead of term limits maybe it would be a good idea to have an age limit for serving. Let’s say you couldn’t run for office unless you were at least 50 years old. That way you wouldn’t have kids with a political science degree coming out of college and beginning a 60 year career fleecing the public. You could also assume that at that age a person should have some work experience and knowledge that would help form their principals and ideas. This could be worth considering.

  2. I understand why it is that the founding fathers did not include term limits but I also believe the founding fathers did not necessarily believe that one political party would become so corrupt, conniving, underhanded and despicable.
Also, at the time, only property owners could vote, not renters, homeless, vagrants, criminals and recipients of welfare checks.

  3. We need comprehensive background checks on these current and any future “aspirants”. Psychological competency checklist a given. And a two-week waiting period before any swearing in.

  4. I imagine politicks, in the days of our Founding Fathers, was a rather distasteful but necessary endeavor. They didn’t WANT to be Politicians — they were forced. Most men want to tend their family and land. The modern politician, just as we have seen in the ancient past, is a leech — a louse — vermin.

    And on… and on…

  5. I broke down an listened to an hour of Levin. He’s quite happy about Trump’s term limit endorsement and even played Trump’s audio of the announcement. Wow, I may faint.

  6. I still maintain that it’s pay and dollar limits that we need for the FedGov, elected, appointed, and hired. The term limits will then take care of themselves.
But the only way we’re going to enact that is with some good old fashioned neck tie stretching. The goldfish will never voluntarily reduce itself to a smaller bowl.

  7. If it doesn’t include time “appointed” or at an SES or Cabinet position it means nothing. As in “Casino” they just kept changing the title of the mob-guy for years, while his application for a gaming license was under review. We experience the same shenanigans in the Armed Forces and gov’t. First thing to do is to remove the word “serve” from the lexicon and replace it with something more appropriate, such as “hogging at the public trough.”
Or occupy one term and be executed at the end of said term – thereby providing little incentive to steal.
The sad fact is that a Republic is designed for honorable men but the masses continue to elect dishonorable men to achieve dishonorable ends.
And rogues are naturally attracted to large sums of money, which a gov’t (any gov’t) must amass to execute its legitimate (as well as its illegitimate) functions.

Sometimes the sovereign (that’s us) must exercise the powers of our sovereignty and clean the shit out of the stables – leaving no illusions as to the identity and character of that sovereign.

But shit! There’s probably a game on TV …

    izlamo delenda est …
