Other Election News – Joe Arpaio Lost

America’s toughest sheriff Joe Arpaio loses his re-election bid after facing criminal charges two weeks before the vote

Arpaio, 84, who called himself ‘American’s toughest sheriff’ for his tough stance on immigration and harsh treatment of prisoners, lost by 54.9 per cent to 45.1 per cent.

His political demise comes just a fortnight after he was charged with criminal contempt of court for allegedly violating an order by continuing to arrest immigrants with no evidence they had broken any state law.

That followed a 2007 civil lawsuit that found against him in a claim he racially profiled Latinos.

His actions came at a high cost to taxpayers.

By next summer, the cost of defending Arpaio and the sheriff’s office in the racial profiling lawsuit is expected to hit $72 million, according to The Associated Press.

He lost the sheriff election after organizers encouraged Latinos – which make up about 30 per cent of the population in Maricopa County – to vote.

Wealthy backers, such as philanthropist George Soros who pledged $2million, also donated huge sums to try and remove him from office.

  1. “Say it ain’t so, Joe!”

Fuck George Soros! It was a brutal and nasty campaign against him.

Actually, I was hoping he wouldn’t run. He is 84 years old and has been sued more times than than all the Mesothelioma and Asbestos suits combined.

  2. Those stupid people don’t realize what they voted for. He probably lost due to the huge turn out of illegal aliens, encouraged to vote by our president. Smart people may want to leave Maricrapo county.

  3. Sheriff Joe is 84, he should ride off into the sunset and enjoy retirement. He trail blazed on illegal immigration enforcement, well before others. Thank you sir! Bravo and great work.

  4. As a resident of Maricopa county, I was a supporter of Sheriff Joe for years. But I did not vote for him in the past two election cycles. As a tax payer in this county, I’m glad I won’t have to cough up any more for the lawsuits and settlements.

There were many good programs that Sheriff Joe implemented and I don’t see Sheriff Penzone coming in and dismantling the successful programs.

The truth is, many of us were tired of the antics and what grew to be straight up narcissism.

Sheriff Joe used to carry overwhelming majorities in elections… but this election shows that Maricopa County was just getting tired of it all.
