NewsBusters: ESPN Public Editor Jim Brady on Election Eve surveyed complaints that the sports network had gone overboard with liberal pieties, frustrating long-time watchers by injecting politics onto the playing field. He agreed with conservative complaints that ESPN had shifted leftward, though the company brass and at least one outspoken lefty personality didn’t see a problem: “One notion that virtually everyone I spoke to at ESPN dismisses is what some have perceived as unequal treatment of conservatives who make controversial statements vs. liberals who do the same.”
….ESPN is far from immune from the political fever that has afflicted so much of the country over the past year. Internally, there’s a feeling among many staffers — both liberal and conservative — that the company’s perceived move leftward has had a stifling effect on discourse inside the company and has affected its public-facing product. Consumers have sensed that same leftward movement, alienating some.
What tipped them off, the millions of subscribers that have left over the last few years?
The shift isn’t surprising. ESPN is held by Disney so is infected by ABC, HBO and a number of blatantly left operations. I suspect that in order to gain a high position at ESPN you effectively have to be of the same political viewpoint as the Disney hierarchy and be willing to allow that to infect the decisions you make.
Entirely Stupid Programming Network
The final straw for me was a mike and mike episode two days after the election. They had a story about cubs pitcher Jake arietta tweeting out a goodbye to all the libs that said they were leaving the country. They spend the next half hour discussing how awful that was and how the manager needed to set him down and explain how decisive that comment was. This, the same show that went on and on about Colin kapernick had every right to protest, and that america is a racist country.
Bye bye extremely socially progressive network.
Haven’t watched espen for a LONG time and for the first time, No Football!
