I suspect this video is old, but I was watching some police shooting videos and stumbled upon this one and it’s going to haunt me.
I guess there is something wrong with me, but viewing this video, I can’t get the image of the man’s dog out of my head.
Video is hard to watch—> There is audio of the moment it goes wrong. The video freeze frames out of respect for the troubled man.
(I object to this video being lumped into “Police Shooting Criminals. There is enough information in the video to figure out that this man is troubled and wanted to kill himself. He called a hospital and said something that prompted a visit by the police.)
I used to be a LEO I could not sit around watching anyone being shot by anyone.
Having to shoot someone is a horrible feeling. I have spent many sleepless nights
while on the force and now. I thought it would go away but it hasn’t.

Came close a few times to capping some jerk. Luckily didn’t have to. My nightmares were of gunfights where my gun didn’t work. After 24 years I knew I had to retire when I would wake up at 0300 getting ready to puke. Took me months to de-stress. That was 18 years ago. I miss the guys, not the work.
@Just Sayin’ – Perhaps you should seek some help. Stress is a killer and there is absolutely nothing wrong in getting assistance. In an 18 month period two of my cop buddies committed suicide, one was my FTO when I was a rookie.
You and I know there are some useless people wearing a badge. But the overwhelming majority are great people, good family people that just want to go home in the same condition that they came to work. I worked the worst high crime areas of the city for a dozen years. It’s a good feeling knowing that the cars responding with you to a shots fired call have your back.
The poor dog, Dad slipped a cog and now he’s in the shelter.

That’s why I couldn’t watch the video, Lazlo; I can’t understand people leaving their (insert effected family member here) in the lurch. Don’t think this didn’t trouble the dog.
My worst fear is that something will happen to me and my dog will be left alone…deserted.
Odin, I agree. Get a will going, but more importantly, make friends with other dog owners, you will find someone worthy.
Your exact concern is what is prompting me to get in shape.
I need to give Angus the security of his Dad outliving him.
I can’t bear the thought of his being scared and lonely and uprooted.
The cops should have just left the guy alone. What the hell were they thinking?
