Probation and let civil court handle it. Should someone put their hands on someone else, no, but it isn’t like he pulled a weapon or bashed the guys head in. Make him pay for some expensive anger management classes and settle with his wallet. In CA they let people sentenced to 7 years out in 3 weeks for far worse crimes.

Kicking somebody’s ass was just a misdemeanor when I was growing up and kicking asses. Then they added felony “terroristic threatening” just for telling somebody you were going to kick their ass; so you could still safely kick their ass as long as you said nice things to them while you were doing it.
