THE inventor of the Big Mac has died at the age of 98.
Michael “Jim” Delligatti came up with the iconic McDonald’s burger nearly 50 years ago.
The franchise-owner from Uniontown Pennsylvania put the stacked treat on sale at one of his restaurants in 1968.
McDonald’s initially did not approve of deviating from its strict formula of simple hamburgers, cheeseburgers and milkshakes.
But the creation of a two-patty burger with lettuce, cheese, gherkins, onions and “special sauce” proved an instant hit, and was rolled out to his other 47 outlets across the US.
Mmmmm. I never get junk food anymore. Maybe I’ll drive into town tomorrow and get a Big Mac tomorrow. I need a haircut anyway.

IIRC, in 1969 a Big Mac was 69 cents.
I was wrong. Bob’s Big Boy burger was created in 1937, 30 years before the Big Mac. From Wikipedia:
“Bob’s Big Boy is a restaurant chain that Bob Wian founded in Southern California in 1936, originally named Bob’s Pantry.[1][2] It is now part of Big Boy Restaurants International, the current primary trademark owner and franchisor of the Big Boy system.
Wian created his famous Big Boy hamburger, just less than a year of opening his original location by slicing a bun into three slices and adding two hamburger patties.”
There ain’t much big about a ‘Big Mac’ anymore…
Heard the other day that McDonalds is thinking about trying real meat in their burgers.
There needs to be a discussion about the best flat top grilled hamburger you ever had…no chain stores allowed. I just ran onto a place that is CHEAP, pretty good, in the middle of nowhere and has fries that would make you slap your nearest Hillary supporter….Jiffy Burger, Smith Center Kansas…
If he didn’t eat all those greasy Big Mac burgers he would’ve lived to 100.

I’ve eaten exactly two Big Macs in my life. Both times, I threw up.
He’s from my hometown. As a child, I remember going to the Uniontown McDonald’s for a 25 cent burger as a real treat. RIP, sir.
