  1. Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, –and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of –Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air…
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew —
And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
    RIP

  2. Very patriotic man. Great service record. Very heroic man in 2 wars. Rabid REgressive in the senate who fiercely defended the Clintons and their illegal fund raising and leveraged that into a late in life space ride. A $20 million payback.

    Godspeed.

  3. Damn,,,, DAMN !!
2 of my heroes gone today, yeah, I’m a boomer, so what?
We had 6 in my family, boomer parents took repopulation seriously.
By the time I was old enough to want/need some rubbers, Dad had them there for me to steal.
    You think he knew? LOL

  4. He’s one of those “Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar” celebrities. I loved all the astronauts and their missions in the 60s and 70s. Didn’t like Glenns’ choice of politics afterwards.

As a kid I remember the Mercury and Gemini projects.
