[…] The Times cleared that up by identifying Fusion GPS, an opposition research firm started by former Wall Street Journal reporter Glenn Simpson in 2010.
According to The Times, Fusion GPS was hired to research Trump in Sept. 2015 by a wealthy GOP donor who was vehemently opposed to the real estate billionaire.
But after Trump emerged as the GOP nominee, the unidentified Republican donor dropped the project. But Democrats who support Hillary Clinton had an interest in the information, according to The Times.
The newspaper reported that Steele, who is reportedly highly regarded in spy circles, gave the information he had compiled to the British government. The dossier also ended up in the hands of FBI director James Comey last month. Arizona Sen. John McCain gave Comey the information last month. McCain has said he had no idea if the information in the memo was legitimate but that he believed it should be looked into.
Fusion GPS is not listed in any campaign finance reports, and it is still unclear which Democratic groups hired the firm.

The Forestall fire wasn’t his fault, he did run and hide while the rest of the ship was fighting for their lives.
open door policy; Im not convinced. Did you know he was the only person helicopter evaced off the ship? With no injuries either. It was because the crew was going to kill him if he stayed.
So, did Fusion GPS turn over whatever information was fed to their “operative” that they gathered for the GOP Donor (and wouldn’t we like to know who he was) and presumably paid for by that donor to the Democrats? Sort of strikes me as pretty unethical by anyone’s standards. The murkey trail of this stuff really would have a real intelligence operator smelling a rat in about two pages. McCain was probably fed the stuff knowing that he’d take it to the FBI. The whole thing stinks to high heaven and I could see the Russians having a hand in it as a way to rattle the west intelligence service’s as well as Trump’s trust in them (which he probably shouldn’t have very much of). Hell, if rumours of this were floating around since last summer the timeline would make perfect sense for the Russkies to put this together.
