Climate Change Activist Killed While Walking Across the Country

He was hit by a car.

DC- Mark Baumer started his barefoot journey across the country in October to raise funds for a Rhode Island environmental group that opposes the natural gas industry. Florida Highway Patrol confirmed Baumer was hit on the shoulder of Highway 90 in Walton County.

He told Vice in December that walking barefoot was painful and the walk was less harsh on his feet if he stepped on the white line on the border of the road because it was the smoothest area. He also told the website that he did not step aside for cars but did move for trucks. “They’ll really mess you up,” he said.

  1. I hear that the yellow lines in the center of the highway are even smoother than the white ones on the side ….. just a tip for any other environ-mental activists (emphasis on “mental”) interested in walking barefoot across America. You’re welcome.

  2. Hwy 90 in Florida? That’s what we call LA (Lower Alabama). People in this area don’t walk or ride Bicycles on the highway. It’s just stupid and will not end well.
