Tesla Workers in Revolt – IOTW Report

Tesla Workers in Revolt

Tesla uses non-union workers, gets federal subsidies, and  pays them below the UAW national average.

The workers are in revolt, are in contact with the UAW, and are ready to unionize. They say the pay is not only low, the plant is unsafe.

But here’s the funny part:

The workers can’t afford to live in the Bay Area where the cars are made, so many of them commute hours to get to their job, offsetting any “green gains” the Tesla supposedly makes for the environment.

Mercury News-

Moran, a 43-year-old husband and father of two, has been with the company for four years. He said he’s proud of the work he’s done at Tesla to produce innovative, electric vehicles. But even with a steady paycheck, he said, it’s hard to make ends meet in the Bay Area. He commutes from Manteca, spending three hours a day in his vehicle, and can put in 60-70 hours per week.

!snip!

Progs don’t do capitalism very well.

  1. Progs are particularly nasty sons-a-bitches to work for

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

    ― C.S. Lewis

  2. “So quit and find another job.”

Exactly. Half the fricken silicon valley commutes from Manteca or Livermore. The UAW is ridiculous. 100K a year for pushing a button to activate a pneumatic lug nut machine is nuts. No pun intended.

  3. I’m all for workers coming together for collective bargaining. But when I saw this article earlier my first thought was that the claims are likely extreme, and likely coming from somebody who has wanted the union in there from day one rather than responding to poor conditions.

  4. UAW wages are responsible for auto plants being built outside of the US. conributory but not the only reason. OSHA regulations are another. High Taxes and BO/BS another.

  5. Elon Musk and all his businesses depend on government money or they’d be belly up in days if not hours. The problem is that if the UAW gets in there all the cost increases will end up as increased subsidies from the taxpayer. His companies have been on the government teat for years now and it’s time to cut him off.

  6. I use to despise Musky but have recently changed my mind. He plays the game by the rules set forth by the Federal Government and takes advantage of them at every turn. Like any great business man would. His space company is designing some incredible stuff. That technology will be past around. Money well spent.

  7. A pretend company which manufactures pretend cars in a pretend state wants to bring in the same union which destroyed the “Big Three” auto manufacturers?

    Sounds like a plan …

    izlamo delenda est …

  8. Unionize the factory and that “affordable Tesla Model 3” price will zoom higher than one of that dude’s rockets.

It’s like Whole Foods throwing a bone to the working class with their planned cut-rate “365 Stores.”

    Ain’t gonna happen, trust me.
