ESPN Losing 10,000 Subscribers a Day Over Its Political Left Turn

Breitbart:

Once an indispensable sports powerhouse, cable TV network ESPN has gone from must-see-TV for millions of sports fans to financial boondoggle for owner Disney with the network losing up to 10,000 subscribers a day, a report says.

“A floundering ESPN, with rising costs and declining viewership, continued to sink Disney’s DIS, +0.24% financial results during its fiscal first quarter,” MarketWatch.com reported.

With the impact of the flailing sports network, Disney’s revenue fell 3 percent, and its profits sank 14 percent, the financial site reported.

As to ESPN itself, the network lost subscribers, found its average viewership crater, and experienced falling advertising rates even as its programming costs climbed. And this fall from grace continued even after Disney insisted that ESPN had reached its bottom after the previous quarter came to an end.

Disney CEO Bob Iger, though, is still putting a sunny face on this quarter after quarter failure saying he still “believes” in the network.

  1. I don’t have cable so I have never seen it. Plus I don’t need someone talking about sports to understand the game.
When I watch football I turn off the sound I get how the game is played so STFU.

  2. Cancelling ESPN is a good start but if you really want to make the Disney Board nervous start cancelling Disney Vacations and Cruises and stop buying Disney products (including Star Wars). Skip the next Star Wars movie no matter how much the little ones scream. You can bet you’d see some action then.

  3. They’d have to be total idiots to not see the writing on the wall.
Or, they hold their ideological objective so hard, that they’ll ride it down to absolute failure.
Bon voyage and good riddance, leftist losers!

  4. ESPN lost me when they started promoting Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner as courageous. Jenner’s lapse into mental illness was sort of a sport’s story, but when ESPN reported this as courageous, it was too much. The network has done this with other pet liberal issues as well.

The nice thing about cable is that there are different genres for different folks. ESPN is sports, I love sports, and I don’t want politics shoved down my throat in the guise of sports programming.

  5. Dear ESPN/Disney, If you want to reverse your ratings hire Rush Limbaugh, give him a free hand and pay him more than anyone else on the payroll.

Of course, your management will have to get a frontal lobotomy to do that. So just live with your own decisions.

  6. Oh, c’mon.
Disney has been a shill for the totalitarians since (at least) when the Clintons gave Eisner a “heads up” about the coming tax increases and he exercised his stock options to the tune of some $300 Million? Am I remembering correctly?
And their movies have been contaminated with putrid socialist funk since, what … Mary Poppins? Disney pollutes everything it touches. From kids eaten by alligators in their parks to sappy bullshit movies.

    izlamo delenda est …

  7. I always liked mike and mike, until…when the Colin kapernick nonsense started and they read the company line that. “You can disagree with how he’s protesting, but you can’t argue with the fact that blacks have it tough in america.” Just a short time later, they spent a whole morning blasting some cubs pitcher for tweeting “any of you Hollywood celebs that need help packing (after the election), just call.” They both went on and on about how divisive that was and how management needed to sit him down. Sorry ESPN, bye-bye.
