California State Sen. Janet Nguyen (R-Garden Grove), was forcibly removed from the Senate Thursday morning for offering a different perspective on the late Sen. Tom Hayden, a Democrat with a well-known and lengthy history of communist sympathies.
The perspective Sen. Nguyen offers is first hand. Her family escaped communist Vietnam and came to the United States in search of freedom in 1981 during Ronald Reagan’s presidency.
Sen. Nguyen and I spoke Thursday shortly after the incident. She said Tuesday the Senate had scheduled a memorial for the late former state Sen. Tom Hayden, who died in October. Hayden served 18 years in the Legislature.
The left has always portrayed Hayden as a “counterculture figure who led civil rights and antiwar protests in the 1960s.” However, “When Joan Baez organized a petition to protest Hanoi’s racist pogrom against Vietnam’s ethnic-Chinese minority, Hayden defended Hanoi,” the Wall Street Journal reported. “The fact is that Hayden’s life was in large part a crusade for the cause of the Vietnamese communists. He returned from his trip to Hanoi in 1965 singing the praises of North Vietnam.”
Nguyen said she had prepared a speech offering her perspective on what Hayden meant to the Vietnamese people for the Tuesday Senate memorial, but because his family was there, she chose to wait for another day.
Sen. Nguyen and her staff asked Senate Rules what the proper process was for presenting her comments in the Senate. But she was told she could not make the speech about Hayden, and should “respect others’ perspectives about Hayden and his many decades of public service.”
“I was told I could prepare a statement for my Senate website or my Facebook page,” Nguyen said.
Undeterred, Thursday, Nguyen began her speech in Vietnamese, and switched to English, at which time she was quickly cut off by Democratic leadership.
“Today I recognize in memory the millions of Vietnamese and hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese refugees who died in seeking freedom and democracy,” Sen. Nguyen said. “On Tuesday you had an opportunity to honor Sen. Tom Hayden. With all due respect, I would like to offer this historical perspective…” At that point Nguyen was cut off by Sen. Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens), presiding over the Senate, who then gave the floor to Sen. Bill Monning (D-Carmel). While Nguyen was still trying to give her speech, Monning repeatedly yelled over her that she was out of order.
Upon Lara’s order, Nguyen’s microphone was lowered by a Sergeant, but she continued her speech, even as Lara repeatedly asked her to sit down. He eventually ordered the sergeants to remove Sen. Nguyen from the Senate floor.
“Sergeants, please remove Sen. Nguyen from the chamber,” Lara said. “Have her removed immediately. Sergeants, please remove Sen. Nguyen, she is out of order.”

Commies throwing out patriots speaking-out about commies.
Remember California, keep voting democrat.
God bless that woman and her strength. That’s American!
#ShePersisted
I am gladdened by her effort and saddened by the treatment she received from her self-styled honorable colleagues (high-level govt thugs).
It’s often said and very true that those who have lived under the communist boot make the best new americans. She is an example.
The sink hole called California, is almost finished eating itself. All that is left is the ass.
So, be prepared for further evidence of one ass…. trying to stink more than the last.
Sort of like Waters, Warren, Pelosi, Lewis and the rest of the D.C. cabal.
Democrats answer to losing, go further left than Hillary.
As usual, let’s not confound the issues with anything like truth.
Double your pleasure.
Obviously, a very conscientious woman. I applaud her effort, but I would have never asked for advice on when to give that speech from my opponents. First off, so what if Hayden’s family hears what a POS he was? It’s not like they don’t know. Second, forgiveness is always easier to get than permission. She should have caught them off guard.
Wrong place, wrong time. She shoulda held a press conference to extol his virtues, then proceeded to tear him yet another asshole.
The Left whines about Mexican refugees (immigration criminals), Syrian refugees (Muslim invaders), and Palestinians (ditto), but they didn’t give a rat’s ass about the Vietnamese boat people.
Sen. Nguyen could tell you horror stories about Vietnamese Communism to make your hair stand on end.
I have a number of Vietnamese friends. They are, in general, very bright, hard-working and family-oriented people; fiercely loyal. But when they make up their mind, they are as resolute as a block of granite.
This state senator is deserves great respect.
What is even better, she put on parade leftist hypocrisy. Excellent.
I first heard about this here on IOTW. A good portion of my lunch hours involved calling this woman’s office and thanking her. Then I proceeded to call the offices of the senators that were involved in here being removed. Then I called several other CA rep? and the governor and gave them a piece of my mind on everything from illegals to early release of prisoners. A Whittier police officer was just killed due to Jerry Brown’s policies. Don’t know how much longer and stand this socialist republic.
What difference, at this point, does it make that millions of people died AFTER the North took over the South
That fact is we had a State Senator who went over in 1965 to North Vietnam and afterwards he said the North Vietnamese were pretty cool, Ma-a-a-a-an!! And that maybe we should stop hassling them, Ma-a-a-a-an! And let them re unite with the South
Two important distinctions here between the incidents:
1) Sen. Warren’s silencing was done in regards to a cabinet appointment confirmation hearing. It is essential that Senators be permitted to provide both positive and negative information about a nominee, even if the nominee is a current Senator. In contrast, Sen. Nguyen was speaking out in a memorial proceeding, and her comments could have been made in another time and place.
2) When Sen. Warren was told that she was barred from speaking any further during the confirmation hearing, she complied with that decision. Sen. Nguyen did not comply with the order to be silent, and that is why she was ejected.
We stumbled over here from a different web address and thought I might check things out. I like what I see so now i’m following you. Look forward to going over your web page yet again.
