George W. Bush Discusses His Affection for Michelle Obama

Motto: To some, they might seem an unlikely twosome: a former president and former first lady from two different administrations, different political parties, different generations and different upbringings.

But George W. Bush tells PEOPLE that he feels a real fondness for Michelle Obama.

“She kind of likes my sense of humor. Anybody who likes my sense of humor, I immediately like,” says Bush, in an interview to launch his first art book and new exhibit, Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors, a collection of his paintings of post-9/11 war veterans.

Bush, 70, notes that he was regularly seated beside Obama, 53, at official events like Nancy Reagan’s memorial service, an interfaith memorial service for Texas police officers last year, and the September 2016 dedication ceremony in Washington, D.C., to mark the opening of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. There, photos of the two of them cuddling on stage went viral.

“I can’t remember where else I’ve sat next to her, but I probably have a few wise cracks and she seemed to like it okay,” says Bush. “I needle her a little bit and around her, I’m fairly lighthearted. [The Obamas] are around serious people all the time and we just took to each other.”

Asked about that sweet moment at the Smithsonian, he says: “When I saw her, it was a genuine expression of affection.”

  1. He sat next to her a couple of times and that translates into a close, affectionate relationship?

Apparently I’m in a close, affectionate relationship with the guy in the window seat on my flight home from California.

  2. After the first 4 years of her husband Obumbles criticizing Bush (BDS on steroids) for absolutely everything, now all is sweetness and light?

Sorry — I don’t buy it, or else Bush 43 is incredibly naive.

  3. I remember the stunned look on the faces of those I informed that the Bushs were liberals back when they were in office. Aw yes, to know the heartbreak of Casandra.

  4. He doesn’t even have to officially join the DemoKKKrat Party as he already has all the training, family history, and instincts down pat. His immediate family is even ahead of him in their affection for socialist principles and policy (plus he has great affection for a tranny)!

  5. With all due respect (and I do respect Mary Jane, Bush, not so much) shouldn’t that headline be “George W. Bush’s Disgusting Affection for Michelle Obama”?

  6. W can’t like Moose as much as he claims after all the way the Obamas trashed him.

W is saying this to portray the Obamas & VarJar as nice people & to elevate and legitimize the Obama / DemonRat party’s schemes to obstruct & destroy the Trump admin and Trump personally if possible. The Bush family hates Trump as much as the Demonrats.

  7. I guess his kids didn’t have to worry about Mooch’s school lunch program, the Bush family is definitely not on Obamacare, his schools, hospitals, and neighborhood are not impacted by illegals, he is most likely profiting from Common Core. What’s not to like?

  8. What is next – George and Laura move into the Obama’s Washington DC fortress? I saw Joy Behar thinks Bush is the greatest now that he is ripping Trump daily – he can have a weekly spot on The View.

  9. They’re just two little peas in the pod of the uni-party. Criticisms of Bush were just political theater to keep the Dem and Repubs at the bottom of the food chain busy battling each other, while the George Schwartz (Soros) one-world government took over. All is forgiven in the name of globalism.

  10. I’d donate so that W can go on a vacay with the obamas.
And I’d pay $10000 to be there if W and Mooch went skinny-dipping in the lake.

W is showing multiple signs of senile dementia.
And Bush-Asshole Syndrome-they’ve all shown the symptoms.
