U.S. airlines flee Castro’s island hellhole

AmericaThinker: President Obama made a big deal about the resumption of U.S. carrier travel to Cuba.  JetBlue in particular got Obama’s accolades.  After all, when the president of the United States sets the example for Cuba tourist travel, showing how it’s all tropical music, classic cars, Cuban cigars, mojitos, and dancing like Beyoncé out on the Malecón, who could resist?

Today, JetBlue has cut back its flights “to better match demand.”  And in the last few days, it has been joined by two other airliners, Silver and Frontier, fleeing for their lives like Marielitos.  They all said demand isn’t what they expected.

This is a fancy way of saying what’s really going on: Cuba is a tourist hellhole.  The service stinks, the amenities are gross, the place is thick with thieves and woman-gropers, the cost is high, and the alternatives are out there.  In fact, the Caribbean is loaded with pleasant, accommodating destinations well worth a tourist’s dollar for a vacation.  Taking a vacation at a communist military-run resort really falls more into the Gulag category.

How is this for tourist hell?  Observers noticed Cuban customs officials rummaging through tourist luggage and taking what they wanted.  When the tourists complained, they were thrown in jail.  More

  1. FLOOD THEIR COUNTRY with iphones, X-Boxes, and free internet. Before long you will have an entire population NOT interested in communism, but rather taking pictures of their food, trash-talking over voice chat, walking into traffic while playing flappy bird.

  2. Watched a congressional hrg last yr where Huban Gowadia, acting director of TSA, danced around this issue: Cuban govt wouldn’t allow Air Marshals on any US carriers. Think about that for a second. It’s concerning enough they won’t allow a US Security presence stationed on the ground (Security link in AT article).
The same acting director Gowadia (of Indian descent. Can we not find Americans to head up our agencies?), appeared before congress last week on concerns of targeting whistle-blowers. Usual waste of 2 hours of excuses/denial/refusal to produce and promises to get back to the committee for follow up.
Pres Trump is correct in cutting 3 agencies within TSA, but IMO the entire agency needs to be axed.

  3. A Brit pediatrician friend has been visiting Cuba for humanitarian work for several years now.
Her stories of Castro’s hellhole are appalling. And consistent–nothing ever improves.

The lucky ones escaped on boats or rafts.

  4. A lefty acquaintance of ours is taking his whole family to Cuba later this month. He’s a real “look at me” kind of guy who can’t stop talking about this trip. My husband and I debated sending this article to him. We looked at each other and said, “Naaaaaaaaah.”

  5. Tired Mom,
I have friends like that – some people only learn the hard way. I don’t wish bad luck on them, but I won’t have much sympathy if the are harmed by their own choices, either.

  6. Oh, Graceia, you are a better person than I, cuz I am just PRAYING this whole family has to wipe their behinds with their own hands due to the lack of toilet paper! I’m hoping this dude does not understand that credit cards are not used on the island and he arrives with little cash. And I’m wishing with all my heart for cockroaches in their morning cereal. That is pretty much the extent of harm I wish upon them, but…I DO hope for it. And I can’t wait for their full report on how fabulous their trip was 😉

  7. Tired Mom,
Heh, heh. I would be fine with any for those! I was thinking more along the lines of murder or serious harm. I would be OK with Montezuma Revenge, too.🙄

  8. Let’s fill those flight with the “Hate America Crowd”. After all, nothing like a reality vacation to fix stupid thinking. Maybe free flights for those looking for that outstanding Cuban medical care.

  9. Didn’t y’all hear? They’re renaming the famous Malecon. In honor of Hereditary Dictator For Life Raul Castro, they’re renaming it to MARICON
