GOP Leaders May Drop Wall Funding to Win Democratic Approval for Other Priorities

Breitbart:

Amid Democratic opposition, Republican leaders are retreating from President Donald Trump’s very popular campaign promise to build a border fence to block illegal immigration, drug smugglers, and criminals.

A top GOP leader, Sen. Roy Blunt, told reporters on Tuesday that GOP leaders do not want to include Trump’s spending for the border wall in the spring budget, which is due by April 28. “All of the committees, the leaderships of the House and Senate, are working together to try to finalize the rest of the FY17 [budget spending] bill,” he added. “My guess is that comes together better without the [border] supplemental,” he told The Hill. But GOP leaders may include some border spending in a separate 2017 budget for the military, Blunt suggested.

The tacit retreat comes only a few days after GOP leaders staged and lost a fight to push their own business-friendly version of an Obamacare reform, and amid GOP calls for Trump to help pass their hoped-for tax cut.

Top Democrats are hoping to wreck Trump’s presidency by blocking any funding for his key campaign promise. “The wall is a poison-pill rider,” Schumer said in an interview with Politico. “They’ll do it at their peril.”

  1. Support the republican primary challengers to incumbents if that’s a better option. Or independent, if they have a chance of winning, and vote the right way.

IMO, this is ALL about big donors, and chamber of commerce cheap labor. Oh, you’re a citizen, and want gainful employment to support your family? End of the line, pal. The big donors are more important.

  2. The Wall is the big thing that garnered my vote. Building the Wall has been LAW since the Secure Borders Act of 2006. The Repubs need to fund the thing now that they have both houses. And they need to grow a pair; when Dem lawmakers complain, the Repubs need to show the names of the prominent Dems who voted for the Act in 2006. That would include the Dowager Empress Junior Sen Clinton of NY.

  3. With the GOP “backing” him, President Trump may as well flip parties. Magically, all of his policies would then become madly popular.

I KNEW it. I KNEW these fucking rat turd Republicans would fuck up the greatest opportunity they’ve ever had to correct the direction of this nation.

I’m sick to death of them all.

  4. I’m thinking we real Americans waited too long to elect someone like Trump
10 years ago maybe we could have turned this around.
Now, I’m not so sure, without a shooting war.

  5. I am a little bit shaky on my civics but I thought our vaunted Repellicrat leaders said that if we gave them the House, Senate, and Presidency that they wouldn’t need help from the DemonKKKrats to pass legislation!

  6. “tacit retreat”????? It’s a damn rout. The chicken-kaka republicans are only good at a few things; lying, colluding, RETREAT, cowardice oh, ok, maybe more than a few.

If only Nicki Haley would infuse them with some of her ‘beachball sized lady nuts’.

  7. TO hanover fist

I don’t know the details in this case, BUT
usually spending from Capitol Hill follows a few steps
(which in and of itself is not bad…sorta safeguards), in normal English:

they vote to do something that costs money
they vote to set aside money to pay for that something
they vote to allow that money to be spent for that something

  8. They just don’t get it. They absolutely CANNOT do that and remain in office. They already have almost zero credibility with the American people. This will be the bale of hay that breaks the Camels 🐫 Back. It will be the absolute end of the Repulican Party and the USA as we know it!

  9. This is a “Read my lips” moment.
George H W Bush was voted out of office for breaking his number one campaign promise. America replaced a man who reluctantly raised taxes with a man who embraced tax hikes (Clinton).
President Trump – Please don’t drop your promise number 1, or America will choose an open border shithead as some sort of crazy retribution.

  10. take the needed monies out of homeland security funds over a multiyear period and screw congress.
as previously stated the secure borders act was passed in 2006 but never adequately funded.
Its a war zone in south Texas right now, but your not gonna hear about it on the MSM. We need this wall.

    > Apparently it’ll take Civil War II, the citizens against the government syndicate, to stop this treachery.

Not if you vote the right way! Pick the best candidate the incumbents allow on the ballot, to overthrow the corruption of the incumbents! Why you so stupid?

  12. Hey anonymous, what part of them telling us what we want to hear and then flipping to the commie position as soon as they get elected don’t you get, you moron. This will not be changed at the ballot box, it’s far too late for that. Violence, and lots of it is the only way to “change their minds.”

  13. @Mr. Anth Ropy: Trump can’t do it by himself. Contrary to popular opinion, Congress still makes the laws. Trump can only approve or veto, even though he will probably get blamed for this anyway.
