REUTERS – The Eagles have filed a lawsuit accusing the owners of a Mexico hotel of using the name “Hotel California,” arguably the band’s most famous song, without permission.
In a complaint filed late Monday, the Eagles said owners of the 11-room Todos Santos hotel in Baja California Sur “actively encourage” guests to believe the hotel is associated with the band, in order to sell t-shirts and other merchandise, and make guests feel welcome.
This allegedly included piping “Hotel California” and other Eagles songs through the hotel sound system, and selling t-shirts in that refer to the hotel as “legendary,” resulting in apparent confusion among many guests who posted online reviews. read more
That would be Hotel Baja California I presume. (“Baja” is understood.)
Good Luck with that lawsuit…
ya mean I can check out … but I can never leave?
…. guess ‘all this fortune & fame’ doesn’t pay as well as it used to …
We were in the jungle swamp of coastal Belize, our guide asked if we wanted to stop and have a cold beer and pizza. I thought he was being funny, nope, there in the middle of the swamp on an island, was cold beer and pizza.
The pizza was prepared in a hut, a palm frond hut, with a propane stove, the refrigerator was propane as well. Tomato sauce, palm hearts, gibnut, also known as royal rat, and other ‘stuff’. Palm hearts are good on pizza.
The sign said Pizza Shack, with Hut crossed out and Shack painted in under.
Pizza Hut had actually sent lawyers to make them ‘cease and desist’.
Lawyers suck.
Google if you want to know why it is called royal rat by the natives, kinda funny.
A song that is seared into my brain pan like a misspelled tattoo. I moved cross country in January of 1977 in a Uhaul truck, California to Virginia, and as Hotel California faded out on one radio station the same song faded up on the next radio station that came in range.
At the end of the 5 day journey I never hated a song so much.
Thanks for the travel tip. Regardless of lawsuit outcome I deeply appreciate the warning. If I checked in I would never leave. Except on a gurney, fully blanketed.
I can just see the lawyers sharpening up their steely knives now…
I’m with PHenry on that one. I bussed tables and waited
in my mom’s cafe in ’77-79. That was #1 on the goddamn jukebox forever.
What was the other??? Muskrat Love? Good lord!
Muskrat love? I feel really badly feel you. At least I liked Hotel California the first 50 times I heard it.
Muskrat Love sucked the first time I heard it.
