Now that Donald Trump has been sworn in and we’ve survived the first 100 days, the left is entertaining itself with tales of repressive societies. They’ve put “1984” back on the best sellers list and all progressive eyes have been gazing with wonder upon the Hulu’s new series “The Handmaid’s Tale” from Margaret Attwood’s 1985 novel.
As much as the left is enjoying scaring itself, the dystopia is right in front of them.
It’s ironic that the left loves regulations, laws, and speech codes–the things that make for an oppressed society. Trump is working hammer and tongs on removing regulations and govt control, in essence restoring lost freedoms. Perhaps a free society is a dystopian nightmare for the left.
Attwood is a Canadian where anti-Americanism is a sort of Fleshlight that they never tire of when they either can’t think of anything else, or look at themselves in the mirror.
Oh look… an Oud
What about all those dystopic future novels wherein only adolescents can fix things, such as City of Embers, The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games, The Giver, Divergent, etc. ad nausium?
Is that Peggy, the most annoying character in “Madmen”? That RBF looks familiar.
More annoying than Peter Campbell, even.
Apparently (I haven’t read in detail and certainly not watching) part of the ‘dystopian’ is that birth rates are down. Something Killary noted when discussing the show – in a speech to Planned Parenthood.
The left are children no matter their age

Progtards are un-fucking-believable… They’ll wring their hands over an imaginary Christian theocracy that treats woman like second class citizens only fit as baby-making axolotl tank, and then fall over over themselves praising the “beauty” of Islam. It’s time to face the facts. There is no reasoning with these progtard asshole. They are fully divorced from reality, and dangerously warped & ready for treason.
I’m watching because I do like a good sci-fi dystopian tale. Bonus that Norm MacDonald insulted the heck out of it and I wanted to see what the hubbub was about. I never read the book in high school. I have to laugh when I read a recap of an ep on a TV blog the first comment was, “Trump’s America.” Yeah sure. Idiots.
As the story goes and something bad happens Mr. Illustr8r and I yell, “Blame Trump!” We’re amused that this is how the left sees this show. I don’t think the right are the ones blowing up things and torching the Constitution and shutting down free speech. But what-evs.
The art direction is nice…
@Joe, many of us Canadians can’t stand Atwood and her ilk, just as the majority of “elites” in the US hate Christians and conservatives and have the biggest platforms for spewing hatred, you will find the majority of us are the ones singing the Star Spangled Banner when the microphone cuts out regardless of what our Leftist Média prints.
I haven’t seen it yet, but I liked one of the last lines:
“for all of their talk about women needing to “control their own bodies,” feminists often act as if women are helpless and completely incapable of doing so on their own — unless, that is, they’re guided by a large, expansive, paternalistic government.”

What’s even scarier is what I noticed at Barnes and Noble a couple of weeks ago when I was looking at books. I found a new copy of It Can’t Happen here by Sinclair Lewis. I have an old copy of this book which I bought in the early 70’s when I was still in HS. This book has been out of print (A Signet Book from New American Library) for seemingly forever and now just because Trump became President all of a sudden it’s back in print. I couldn’t believe it. The front page blurb says, The great, prophetic novel about the coming of totalitarianism to America “…It may have already begun”-Jay Richard Kennedy. And on the back, The ultimate triumph of the silent majority, I read this book a couple of times back in the 70’s seeming to think it was a great book, it isn’t, but the left has glommed onto it again and is reprinting it to snooker a whole new generation of fools into believing Sinclair Lewis’s bs about It can’t happen here. Same old bs, new day hoping young fools will buy it and think it’s a great book. I wonder how much longer before they’ll the trot out the movie The Way We Were with Barbara Streisand and Robert Redford if this keeps up. I truly hate that movie because of it’s totally revisionist history of what the left considers to be important. Sinclair Lewis, isn’t he a dead white guy who’s totally irrelevant nowadays? I hate the left and all their doom and gloom about America and what is good and now this, good grief they suck.
Sing with me!
You say dystopia. I say thistopia. Let’s call the whole thing wash.
@geoff I also read “ICHH” about the same time & age. I didn’t realize at the time what a fellow-traveler Leftist that Lewis was, although its obvious rereading it as an adult.
Some interesting characters. Lewis had good instincts envisioning how to “market” Mussolini style totalitarianism to an American Anglo-Saxon population.
The book being out of copyright means more money for the publishers. Plus they can now alter or rewrite the book st will for their own purposes and the Lewis estate cannot prevent it.
I look for the Left to begin rewriting other American classics to fit their biases. Mark Twain, meet Howard Zinn…
Who’s the broad with the dog cone on her head? Has she been trying to lick her ass?
It’s almost time for the next season of The Man in the High Castle isn’t it?
And yes Burner, she’s been licking her ass.
Wouldn’t you?
