Dangerously Stupid and Adolescent California Politicians Pass “Free” Healthcare Bill With No Plans On How To Pay For It

We covered this the other day thinking it was a joke, something prepared on a cocktail napkin by someone with special needs that somehow got into office in California. But today this ridiculous bill was passed –

SacBee –

A California Senate committee tasked with reviewing bills that spend state money passed a $400 billion universal health care proposal Thursday with no funding plan.

Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens, introduced SB 562, a sweeping overhaul of the state’s health insurance market. He’s also the chair of Senate Appropriations. The committee passed the bill with a 5-2 vote during a fast-paced suspense file hearing, clearing the way for it to be taken up on the Senate floor next week.

The vote came days after the committee revealed the Legislature’s first cost assessment of the bill, which turns out to be more than the entire state budget for the year beginning July 1.

“This is the biggest government expansion of a health care system ever, with the exception of maybe the ACA,” said David Wolfe, the legislative director for the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.

“Why would you just mindlessly pass that through without more details? The lack of transparency here is stunning,” he said. “It would be interesting to hypothesize, if it wasn’t the chairman’s bill, would it have been held?”

Lara said he believes it’s possible to come up with a sustainable funding mechanism that doesn’t overtax people and guarantees coverage for all. He described the bill as an answer to attempts in Congress to repeal the Affordable Care Act and strip millions of coverage on Thursday.

“Republicans in Congress voted to strip healthcare from 23 million people without a hearing or a fiscal analysis,” Lara said in a statement. “We have already held two hearings and had an analysis, and I will be introducing a plan to pay for this program and cover every California. With Republicans determined to take away people’s healthcare, we can’t afford to wait.”

!snip!

This, my friends, is what the epithet a$$hole was meant to describe–>

Ricardo Lara, a man who governs like Lucy Ricardo.

  1. It will be interesting to see this funding mechanism that will not overtax people and provide free healthcare to all. They will no doubt make use of some of the smoke and mirrors idled when Obama left office.

  2. Lara said he believes it’s possible to come up with a sustainable funding mechanism that doesn’t overtax people…

$400,000,000,000 cost, divided by 40,000,000 CA residents means $10,000 has to be stolen from every man, woman, and child in the state. And that’s just for health care and doesn’t include roads, bridges, graft, bribes, the SF gay pride march, and the ever-popular hookers and blow for the pols and their cronies.

    Yeah, that’s affordable all right.

  3. This may be irresponsibly stupid, but this is also how social policy should be implemented – at the state level. If Cali has to bankrupt itself, that’s fine. It’s what the people voted for. Let the progressive agenda fail publicly and spectacularly, I just wish I didn’t have to see it.

Gov Moonbeam can’t have his train and 562.

  4. When the healthcare system fails in California, the state will petition Trump for money to bail them out.
If Trump refuses, he will be accused of attempting to murder an entire state full of men, women and
children. That’s how this crap works. The legislature is fully aware they can’t afford this. They just completed
a state-wide feasibility study that told them so.

  5. This is no plan to pay for this because Lara knows they cannot pay for it. Even the most brain dead Silicon Valley hi-tech liberal, who is actually having trouble finding “affordable” housing on a six figure income, knows his or her state tax burden will at least double.

Liberals always assume that high income earners can always pay more and will willingly do so. No, this is not an accurate assumption. I know many people who earn two or three times what I make, and still live paycheck to paycheck and cannot possibly figure out how to pay more taxes. I know many more people who make far more than I do who want to keep what they earn.

The ramifications of this could be immense – particularly if interest rates rise. California’s real estate market, which is heating up again, could see another massive correction, and high income earners will likely relocate to avoid over-taxation. Hopefully someone with a lick of sense will kill this plan.

  6. It will be interesting if the IRS can come up with a new regulation – state individual income tax cannot be deducted from federal income tax anymore, starting 1-1-18. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

  7. I bet this guy is related to that Mexican, fugitive harboring asshole Kevin (Ghost Gun) dildoLeon.

I think it’s pretty obvious that the entry requirement for the Sacramento legislature is but a 3rd grade education – just like Kevin DeLeon’s mother has.

  8. I once tried to point this out to someone who thought the answer to the health care issue is “Medicare for everyone,” and HE called ME delusional.

I hope California covers Schistosomiasis, because these people have been in de Nile for a long time.

  9. Gangs, murder, high percentage of urban poverty, a massive debt, and widespread governmental patronage and corruption.

Thought it was California, but this description is Venezuela.
They both share their love of Socialism, as long as someone else pays the bills.

  10. @geeknerd:

I hope California covers Schistosomiasis, because these people have been in de Nile for a long time.

Heh! Yes, they’ve been up to their asps in de Nile! So much of what they do is simply a croc.

  11. A California Senate committee tasked with reviewing bills that spend state money passed a $400 billion universal health care proposal Thursday with no funding plan.

“That’s okay; we’ll just make the Federal government give us the money.”

  12. Cloward-Piven on a massively unprecedented scale.

If passed, when it collapses the CA Dems expect they can loudly demand– no, DEMAND, with middle fingers out–that Evil Trump bail them out, “or else”.

Trump is savvy enough to head that off with a PR offensive in advance.

Coupled with mass deportation of their voter base, this could push the Dem stranglehold on California over the cliff.

How long before the last taxpayers finally are driven out of the state?

  13. Look at the bright-side you’ll have more insurance for gang members, illegal aliens, islamic refugees, drug addicts, anarchists, socialists, the unemployed and everyone scamming the EBT system in California!

  14. This is one of many reasons the 1965 immigration act was suicidal insanity for America. Never been fixed, either.

But, hey, at least the treasonous garbage that voted for it weren’t called racists.
